I've read about this before, but had not come across the video. Someone posted it to the JLELO FB group today. Nice to hear him talk about my favorite ELO song. The man is obsessed with chord changes. As a non-musician, as long as he sings the melody right I doubt I'd notice if he switched up the chords.
it says this was filmed in his studio - his place in LA? or prior to that?

I've always loved this interview! As a musician (albeit one who has very little knowledge of music theory) it makes me happy to see my favorite songwriters nerding out about their craft.
And as a bonus, I get to learn the chords from this one.

This was recorded right around the Zoom era, maybe shortly after, so it's definitely his LA home studio.
Incidentally, the person who uploaded this used to be a regular on one of the previous incarnations of this forum.

When I first discovered it, I watched that video many times.

I remember this interview from the Zoom era. What interests me even more, today, is how Mik Kaminski came up with the violin introduction. That really sets the stage for the song. Has anyone seen any video of Mik talking about how he came up with the violin intro?

Not being a musical genius, I marvel at all the key changes etc that goes into something like this, just brilliant...
