Very sad news indeed. The Birmingham Mail article featured elsewhere on this forum, reflecting on NEC concerts in the 1980s, sadly doesn't feature a Meatloaf appearance: Birmingham MailThe only time that I saw him live was at this very venue in May 1982 (forty years ago?!!), supporting the first two classic albums Bat Out Of Hell and Dead Ringer. It was a great show and the backing band contained a very youthful Eric Troyer. Remember him?! RIP Meatloaf, your legacy is assured.

The magic partnership of Meat Loaf and Jim Steinman is back together again - on a higher, heavenly plane. Something that shows his sense of humour is this... Rest in peace, Meat... You have been loved by so many.

Meat Loaf was once the guest on a BBC Saturday morning kids' TV show and took part in a sketch with comedy double act Trevor and Simon.
It was all going well, then Meat Loaf suddenly blew his top, started yelling about what a dumb sketch it was, how he and the other guest hadn't been given any decent lines, and promptly stormed off the set. All with a twinkle in his eye.
Recovering his composure admirably, Trevor quipped: "He'll do anything for love, but he won't stick to a script!" And Simon came back with: "Not a dry trouser in the house!"
One of those unforgettable TV moments. Rest in peace, Meat.

Here he is in a sketch with Stephen Fry on a late night mid-80s BBC comedy show.

I was gutted to hear this news, he was one of my musical heroes. Went to see him many times up to Last Bat. The music world has just dimmed a little... RIP Meat

May Meat Loaf rest in peace. "Well now I have the first Top 40 hit by the latest in a long line of pop artists who named themselves after an item of food, during the 23 years of the rock era we've had Top 40 hits by such delectable sounding recording acts as Vanilla Fudge, Marmalade, Bread, Cream, The Cookies, Peaches & Herb, The Raspberries and The T-Bones, the most recent addition to the menu is a Texas singer who calls himself by the unlikely name Meat Loaf, when we spoke with him recently he told us how he happened to come up with that unusual tag, he was born Marvin Lee Aday, and while he was growing up his friends and family called him by his initials ML, then one day while he was in high school during a practive scrimmage with the school's football team, Marvin accidentally stepped on the coach's foot, now Marvin is a big cat, standing 6 foot 1 and weighing 260 lbs, and when he landed squarely on the coach's unsuspecting foot, the coach screamed, get off my foot you big hunk of meat loaf, and the name stuck (laughs) in fact, it stuck so well that several years ago Marvin Lee Aday, had his name legally changed to, Meat Loaf, this week he's up to #20 with his first Top 40 hit, Two Out of Three Ain't Bad..." - Casey Kasem's American Top 40 from June 3rd, 1978

Never had the pleasure of seeing Meat Loaf live, but he's always been a legend and a total one-off. Love this video which is so typical of him, hamming it up to the nines and the whole cast joining in to make it just massively joyous. It's perfect.
RIP Mr Loaf, you and Mr Steinman are probably having a party even better than this in heaven tonight

He may have caught it recently but apparently he'd been ill for a while beforehand too
