I’ve read about a lot of Classic rock artists selling their publishing for big time lump sum payments. The latest I heard about was the late Jeff Porcaro’s (Toto drummer) estate being in line to receive $30 million for his publishing (co-write on Africa, other mechanical royalties from all his session work etc). Do you think our Jeff has given this type of opportunity some thought or is he happy to re-record his catalog for movie, commercial use etc instead? Is there someone with a better handle on the business out there who can explain to us on the forum how this may work for Mr. Lynne? Thanks!

I don’t know for sure but I’ve heard one of Jeffs daughters has cashed in or sold her entitlement to her part of his estate when he dies.

Stevie Nicks sold her rights for $100 million dollars, so if Jeff Lynne were to take a similar route I believe he would be offered around that amount, possibly even more.

Heck, one could live comfortably just selling the rights to Mr Blue Sky.

I can't see Jeff selling any rights, he's too much of a control freak.

I can't see Jeff selling any rights, he's too much of a control freak. People said the same thing about Neil Young and David Crosby, but both artists sold their rights for huge sums of money.

Looking at the lack of archival material, I say there is a low probability of Jeff selling his music rights.
