Hey again, ELO people. Thanks to Horacewimp for allowing us to do this. So, I've got the list of ELO songs to 179, which obviously won't work out to an even tournament, so I've got to think about which way we're gonna do this. I haven't included alternate versions of songs (e.g. I've included Caught In A trap, but not In For The Kill, which is the alternate version. Of course, I could be persuaded to include both). I also haven't included interludes like the Eldorado Overture etc, mainly because most of those are regarded as parts of other songs. Any suggestions, ideas, etc? Pass them along. I can use all the help I can get....lol. Thanks!

I'm lost. What is this tournament? I don't know where I am! What thread have I missed that lead to the making of this thread?

BSJ It was mentioned by Chippa in this thread that maybe it was time for a new tournament to be run jefflynneselo.proboards.com/post/93972/threadThe number and selection of songs sounds great Chippa I’ve done some maths and hopefully this makes sense. Assuming 179 songs 25 rounds of seven songs with the top two progressing, this will leave four songs which will get a bye into the next round. This should give us 54 songs so six rounds of nine with the top three progressing. This should leave 18 songs so six rounds of three with the top song progressing. This will leave six songs for the grand final. Hope this helps and makes sense or more importantly my maths are correct

I think your math is correct, Horacewimp. I may try it that way. I have some other ideas, as well.

Looking forward to it. Why not use In For The Kill? You've convinced me. Its in. As are both versions of Xanadu.

I think multiple voting should be allowed if there are more than 4 songs per round. Other than that, Horace's plan sounds good! Just curious, are you planning on including demos such as Dark City and Second Time Around as well as recent bonus tracks like Out Of Luck and Lucky Motel? If you want to shake things up, you could throw in songs released under "Jeff Lynne", the Jeff era of The Move or even ELO Part 2! I think it would be fun to see The Words Of Aaron, Doing That Crazy Thing, Thousand Eyes and Wild Times go against the Mr Blue Sky and other heavy weights!

Oh man....should I include JL solo, The Move and ELO Part 2?? bwahahahhaha!! If I did that, I could get to 256 songs, and we could do one on one matchups.....but then I'd have to rename the tournament. Maybe, the Ultimate ELO Universe Song?

Ok....how about ELO songs, Jeff Lynne solo songs, The Move, and Idle Race songs? I considered ELO Part 2,but I don't know if many of those songs are as well know. Plus, if we get a round where its, say, Lift Me Up vs an ELO Part 2 song, I'm afraid words might get thrown back and forth, and things will get totally thrown off track. Ya know?

That sounds decent! If you're having trouble getting to even 256, I wouldn't mind kicking out covers such as Junk, Words Of Love, With A Little Help/Nowhere Man or even the entire Long Wave album. I'd much rather have duplicate versions for songs that have very different arrangements, for example Do Ya, Save Me Now and Xanadu.

Keep it to ELO songs. I don't know any ELO II songs and I'm sure I'm not the only one. The covers are a good idea, too.

So it looks like it'll be ELO, JL, The Move and Idle Race. In order to make room for Idle Race songs, I'm removing Jeff's version of Xanadu, and a couple of other songs. But I think we have a really solid list to choose from. I'll post the whole list soon, and then we can get on with our game!

But handy with the mascara...
