Not going very well for Argentina up until now, but at least yesterday morning I got to watch how the Pumas 7 (rugby seven) get the only medal that Argentina has so far, beating... the UK. Our football representative tied against Spain and got eliminated. Not sure if they are very unlikely (there are others which are far more), but I ended up watching handball and diving.

Not bothered about that it's only the kick and clap version of the game.....

it is interesting and I wonder if all the money to support these type of sports (in the uk case from National lottery) is worth it. My view if it was just about winning medals then no but you can argue the greater public participation in certain sports with success must bring health benefits and we all need to move more I guess.
in terms of what I became strangely invested in (as it pay it no attention at any other time) is taekwondo and handball

Don't worry, next World Cup England and Argentina are on the same group, so we'll get to kick your asses in the full version of the game too.

I'm all in for voluntary (private) sponsorship of the athletes, but I don't think think common citizens should be forcefully deprived of part of the money they earn to fund people who practice sports. What are the benefits, other than those for the person who practices the sport? If they want to foster sports then install more workout machines in parks and public spaces, for example.
