Greetings,
I thought of this topic when I did my bi-annual attempt to soak in Donald Fagen's "Karmakiriad" CD. I really WANT to like it, I really want the hooks to be infectious, etc. like a lot of his other stuff; but the only song that comes close on there is one called "Snowbound", and its not exactly a killer of a song, for all its merits.
But I won't give up, in a few months, I'll put it on again and try to really like it. And probably still won't; but I'll still feel like it must be me, and it must really be great, and if I just play it one more time I will get it.
Same thing with Yes "Tales of Topographic Oceans". I think "OK, it's really going to sink in this time", but then somehow it leaves me flat and I don't want to run back for seconds.
Any albums like that out there for you, that you really wanted to believe in, and champion, and like, but when the dust clears, it seems to fall just short of the mark for you?
Jim

Yeah, "Highway 61 Revisited" was never to me the huge great masterwork they say it is. I mean it probably is, but as far as my personal liking of it, I prefer something more like "John Wesley Harding", where the songs don't seem as long and self-consumed. I know what you mean about "Brainwashed", for all its merits, it's not a play the whole thing kind of CD like "Cloud 9", though to me, it seems like at least "Run So Far" is a standout. Just for sure, were those two of the ones you were referring to, or am I reading it wrong? Jim

Lizard by King Crimson.
It sounds like Fripp was trying way too hard to scare me with this one...

I remember "Hot Space" and "The Works" by Queen for any of their merits and handful of good songs, could not really click with me. Guess they set the bar pretty high with "The Game". But I lost all interest in them since I couldn't get into them much after that. I knew they would just be a cool new tune here or there, but that's it. "One Vision" was a good one, but kind of novelty with the "fried chicken", etc. Jim

None of John Lennon's albums ever really kicked in for me, like "Walls and Bridges", etc. Never thought it was that great.
I guess "Double Fantasy" might be the one exception.
They say "Plastic Ono Band" is among the best Beatles solo albums. Maybe I need to play it a couple more times, but never went running back for seconds too much with that one, either.

The Doors "LA Woman" album is another one. Outside of the three hits, it is most boringest album I have ever heard. Just the greatest hits that already has "Love Her Madly" (a song that gets old fast), "LA Woman", and "Riders on the Storm". The other songs are atrocious, you would think an album with ROTS and LAW would be great; if the rest of it is outside of those two songs, it sure never rubbed off on me from my attempts to get used to it. Seems like a bunch of lame attempts at clever blues songs or something.

None of this "Eddie and the Cruisers Part 2: Eddie Lives" stuff for me, please. Just let people keep thinking I'm dead. Guess no worries, most will just assume this post is the Jim from Michigan identity guy just joking around anyways. Jim
