One of the greatest supergroups/power trio/prog bands/musicians of the 1970's teaming up with the best pop rock group in the world would be a mind-blowing collab.
Keith Emerson with Tandy doing keyboards
Greg Lake doing his usual bass wizardry
Carl Palmer and Bev Bevan doing a drum duet
MAKE IT HAPPEN! : D

As much as ELP were great instrument players, I think it is the songwriting what would generate conflict if the match would be in other years than 1970-1973.
I mean, ELP did some weird stuff. In my opinion, they are an example of when progressive rock goes a little too far. To these ears, their stuff is so complicated and twisted that I barely get any pleasure from listening to it.
ELO did some comparable stuff in their early years (and first 3 albums), which is the part of their discography I less like -most songs I don't like at all-, and during that short era the match would probably hae worked, but then (luckily) Jeff turned into a much more digestible direction and fully showed his songwriting genius, something which I don't think ELP had in such an amount, or if they had, they preferred to invest it in other kind of music. In my opinion, they were brilliant instrument players, good singers (in Lake's case) and wrote a few good songs, but were not at Jeff's height.
