Oh no! What a sad loss, he created so many iconic songs. RIP Jim

Very very sad. Great Writer.
His version of Rock and Roll Dreams comes through is the definitive one in my opinion

That sums him up brilliantly, orioles70. For you, dillwyn... Rory Dodd on lead, Jim on backing vocals. Mr Loaf's version is almost as good.

Meat Loaf knew Jim very well - and had no trouble in making an epic out of the ordinary... That song - and video - has Jim at the heart of it

Not his biggest fan, his music seemed a bit overblown for me. Still shocked though....

Great quote in this - Bat Out of Hell, once described as "like Springsteen on Broadway on steroids". BOOH used Springsteen's backing band I think so that makes sense I guess, with Rudgren on guitar of course. Thanks for adding the song, I'd only heard the single edit (shortened sax solo) curiously he produced the Meatloaf version on BOOH II ...I think I prefer Rory Dodd's vocal to Meatloaf

A comment to an article on Jim, in Wednesday's Guardian, caught the mood - and wit - of Jim Steinman... Bat Out of Hell and Bad for Good still sound magnificent today, Dead Ringer maybe not so much. Still Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad

Love the Def Leppard story. They hired Steinman to produce their album as they wanted the same kind of big epic sound of Bat Out Of Hell but apparently were incapable of finding out in advance it was actually produced by Todd Rundgren. Steinman,(a composer) had no experience or ability as a producer at all, something they only discovered during recording!

he was, and frequently said so, a huge wagner fan and its no coincidence that his own output was wagnerian.
