I've always liked the first of these pieces: Satie's Gymnopédie No 1.
The French film "Diva" (1981) includes a scene where, after a night out, two characters stroll in Paris at dawn, to a piano instrumental with echoes of Satie.

I'm loving these choices I have to mention Diva. Week after week I noticed it on the bill of a cinema in Dublin. It actually ran for over a year. 40 years ago! I can't believe it! Cinema-going was very different then. I mustn't detract from the theme of this thread though

Diva was the first French film that I went to see in a cinema here in the US. I went with my best Francophile friend from school and we loved it! Fond memories...

Going back to my original selection, it's been the subject of a number of flashmobs. This is my favourite... There's also a beautiful version by Joan Baez.
