Sadly I've never been lucky enough to meet Jeff but I've managed to stalk bump into all of Muse once or twice and snag their autographs. My wizard wheeze is to ask them to draw me a cat, anyone can scribble a cat and I've ended up with complete originals as well as the usual signatures. I still need to get a kitty drawing from Chris the bassist, and the ones done by Dom and Matt won't ever win an art award, but they are unique and I totally love them. They'e been added to my tattoo collection where I can admire them every day and re-live the meetings
I'd recommend asking for a doodle, although the one Mr Musette got Alice Cooper to draw (a snake in a top hat) is hilariously bad - just because people are good musicians doesn't make them good at drawing Let me get this straight, you have tattoos of badly drawn cats on your torso? we need to see these!

Wow not bad at all Horace, big fan of Ultravox, liked the Human League as well. Bev Bevan always reminded me of the sort of bloke that would be happy to give an autograph or pose for a picture. Nice item to have in your collection.

Have we ever discussed those people you see with absolute armfuls of stuff to be signed who are most likely just going to sell them for a massive profit? Famous folks must really hate that, it's the sort of thing which makes them slink away instead of making themselves available to the real fans I bet there are serial offenders who can be spotted a mile off by experienced security guys. Couldn’t agree more unomusette, spoils it for TRUE fans.

There's a video of Jeff being accosted by autograph hounds. As I remember it, he asks them if they are going to sell his signature on eBay, then fends them off using the excuse that his manager told him he's only allowed to signed one per person. The fact that he used his manager was embarrassing and made me not ever want to approach him.

Although I'd probably be too starstruck to ask, if I ever went up to ask for an autograph I'd say something to him (or any band member) that showed I was a fan like "I was there when you played the old Wembley stadium in 86" or "do the seven spacemen on the OOTB cover represent the band?" You may have more of a chance then....

On Ebay I once saw an autographed photo "signed" by Ian Gillan of Deep Purple, the pic however was of his successor David Coverdale

I’m a bit shy when it comes to asking for autographs. It’s usually my better half that does the asking. My autographs are all football related. Outside Old Trafford!!! once we met England legend Sir Bobby Robson, he happily signed our programme. What a gent he was. Must try and find it I have so many programmes boxed away.

Let me get this straight, you have tattoos of badly drawn cats on your torso? we need to see these! Heh! No, they're on my forearms, all the better to stare at more easily. I've never understood people having epensive big tats on their backs where they can never see them, or on their tums or thighs where they'd be upside down.
Know what you mean about having something interesting to say, however I can report that when faced with your hero (and their watchful security) all that goes out of the window and inane babbling takes over, doh!

I witnessed that with a friend of mine who happened to meet her musical hero in a back alley. I can also testify it wasn't (or at least didn't look to be) half as bad as you make it out to be.
