Flashback was issued in November in the States, and December in the UK, so is that the 50th Anniversary month?
ELO50 is later this year
Lots of wind up over a date that really does not exist. And a marketing campaign that is probably in flux due to issues with covid and travel.

There's been more than a bit of goalpost moving over the years. Afterglow was promoted as a 20th anniversary retrospective in 1990, and Flashback served as a replacement ten years later, only to be reissued in 2010 with all mention of previously unreleased tracks removed in time for ELO's 40th anniversary. Then, as of 2012, the remake of 10538 Overture (along with its parent album, Mr. Blue Sky) served as the new 40th anniversary commemorative release, and since that, I as this year or wait until 2022, with the upcoming reissues ignoring the first two ELO albums so they can instead mark the 50th anniversary of when Roy left. In other words, the target is to retroactively apply the JLELO name to everything since July 1972. Let's see how well that one goes down... I just wish Jeff's team would occasionally look at forums to get an idea on what to do to celebrate events like this. I'm sure other other forums have similar threads on the Time 40th, remastered albums, outtakes and not much love for re recordings etc. I've said it before, I will not entertain any re recorded albums under the JLELO moniker. Will they listen? I'm not holding my breath.....

The way I see it the casual ELO fans will always go for the greatest hits package “All over the world” the very best of ELO etc, which has reached its peak sales wise after the recent tours. The market Jeff should be targeting is the long standing loyal fans like ourselves on this forum. So something along the lines of Flashback with a compilation of unreleased material from the archives a decent booklet with notes from Jeff, pictures of past members and a few other goodies mini poster, sticker etc. A new album would be very welcome but would that really be a celebration of the past 50 years!!! I for one won’t be buying anymore greatest hits package or reworked singles or albums. Still would love the double album of Time though. I’m not being negative here if Jeff releases NOTHING I will still be a big ELO fan and enjoy their music.
PS for the anniversary of 10538 Overture from 1972, as a collector I would love to see a Ltd edition colour vinyl single released, along the lines of Surrender and Latitude 88 North, but that’s just me.

If July 1970 was the start of ELO recording sessions, then it would make sense that 1970 is the start of ELO. From that perspective, we are in the midst of ELO's 51st Anniversary.

I remember a thread somewhere about the very first mention of "Electric Light Orchestra". I wonder where that is?
Sheesh, do I have to change the thread title again?

As far as I know............................................................NO! I see there was a book released today on Amazon called 2095 by Keith R Rees. It is based on the Time album and the story line takes you through the whole album. Released on the 2nd July as a tribute to the album. Shame ELO didn’t do something to mark the 40th.....

Well, July 2nd IS the anniversary date.... So I thought, but that'll teach me for taking Wikipedia as gospel! As happened when some anonymous Sony intern decided to put "Motor Factory" on the tracklist of Secret Messages back in 2018 based on incorrect information, now it seems as if we were setting ourselves up to prematurely celebrate Time's 40th anniversary, for a little research actually reveals its UK release date to have been in late July (possibly the 30th) and early August for the US. Still, it's not an entire loss - we had The Battle Of Marston Moor to commemorate.

It appears that Time entered the UK charts in the first week of August so that does correspond with it being released late July. It entered at no2 and stayed there for 3 weeks before finally reaching no 1 for 2 weeks....

I have a very good memory. Summer '81....an instructor at a summer camp.....endless Time listening parties on an epic stereo setup in a friend's room.....and I'm almost certain that this camp was over before August!?
