Think this is getting far fetched now TWO stickers!!!! yeah right as if .... I did have to ask for them from the woman on the computer in the vaccination booth, if I had hidden the two I would have got a third from a woman on the way out she offered a sticker then said “oh I see you already have some”

Been away on a cheeky seaside break (forms in the post but going via China due to covid, good luck getting them delivered) and am chuffed to come back and read of queenofthehours's total triumph in the vaccination centre and the haul of freebies on offer to jabbees. Can't wait until my second, who knows what I might bring home? Nice work you lot!

Looking over the pond at the States there seems to have been a big drop off in daily vaccination numbers, is there a reason for this? Lack of supplies or lack of interest in getting vaccinated?

The J&J single dose vaccine had supply problems. But it's mainly a case of the people that wanted it already having it and the skeptics feeling less need to get it since Covid rates are declining and they see a slew of stupid messages about side effects.
this is how a vaccine talk with a sceptic goes:
I heard a guy in Tennessee died after getting his Vax! How long after? a couple of months, maybe three How old was he? only 86 What did they say the cause of death was? He fell down the stairs. And how is that the vaccine's fault? well maybe the vaccine gave him a blood clot and that made him fall but maybe not? yeah, but I'm not risking it

Looking over the pond at the States there seems to have been a big drop off in daily vaccination numbers, is there a reason for this? Lack of supplies or lack of interest in getting vaccinated? I read an analysis of this problem (can't find the article and graph right now), and the people who are not yet vaccinated tend to fall into a few categories. Some have a vague intention to do it. They are not skeptics, but they are not enthusiastic. Many young people fall into this category. They may need incentives, or increased convenience. Some people are worried about the post injection side effects, are generally queasy about injections, etc. They need more information and reassurance from trusted sources. They want their concerns taken seriously. (Some are also fearful because the vaccines were developed quickly and they don't trust their safety. They want to wait and see. This has been exploited on social media.) Some have a distrust of the medical system due to historical abuses, inequities, and injustices (i.e., the Tuskegee Experiment) . They need more information and reassurance from trusted sources. They want their concerns taken seriously. Some people don't have easy access to the vaccine, have work hours that make it difficult to get the vaccine at a convenient location or can't afford to take time off from work to get the vaccine or take it easy afterwards if they have unpleasant side effects. They may need convenience and/or incentives, and (paid) time off from work. Some believe one or more of the myriad conspiracy theories and/or are hard-core skeptics or anti-vaxxers. Some believe that COVID was a hoax to begin with... The hardest ones to convince are these last two groups, and I'm not sure too many people are going to waste their time and resources with them trying anymore, when they might be able to reach the others. The ones that say that the vaccines were developed too quickly may just need some time. Public health officials here are now taking a more targeted approach to reaching those other groups. I heard a radio report today saying that many vaccine hesitant African Americans trust community leaders and CDC messaging more than they trust local doctors. Some Latinx communities don't have consistently accurate and accessible information in Spanish. There have been vaccination booths at major sporting events, mobile units going out to hard to reach and/or poorly vaccinated communities, stations in highly frequented tourist areas in NYC, for example, to address the convenience issue. There are lots of incentives now, including the Vax-A Million lotteries in Ohio, in which they do 5 weekly drawings for $1 million, and a second drawing each of those weeks (for 12-17 year olds) for a full tuition scholarship to a state university in Ohio ---a huge success, from what I've heard. Other states have seen how successful this has been and are developing their own big incentives. Some businesses are trying to do their part, too. I glanced at a headline about a concert where the tickets for vaccinated people were something like $15, but they were $999 for the unvaccinated. I think we'll get there, but it will take a while. That American cultural trait of stubbornness and attachment to our "liberty" can be very misguided and toxic sometimes, as we have seen lately, but I hope we as a country don't let that stand in the way of getting through the pandemic.
