If it's any consolation to you, dillwyn , our government has been freeing up prisioners by the thousands with the excuse of the pandemic (though not a single case had been reported in prisons). It has been a slow, silent operation that went gaining speed and noise, and now on Tuesday alone, 2,200 criminals were released. Murderers, rapists, kidnappers, torturers, thieves... they've been coming out with no more commitment other than not leaving their homes. Some even live next door to the person they raped or the family whose member they killed. You might ask yourself "why the government, if it's the judges who decide those things?". Well, institutions are so rotten here that most judges are simple errand boys of power. The order has come from the executive power and is part of a complex plan. The only good thing about it was the rude awakening for the feminists who voted for them seeing how they are freeing so many rapists. Fools of them for not realizing back then how they were being used. This is totally insane. They say some italian doctors gave the Remdesivir to football players, politicians and other VIPs affected by Covid-19. This is the reason why they recovered so quickly and they didn't need to be hospitalized.
If that were true, maybe someone should explain it to the families of the Covid-19 victims (28,710 right now).

as far as Remdesivir goes, it doesn't look to be any sort of wonder drug
it wasn't developed for Covid and it's just an accident if it works well it isn't easy to make and isn't widely available yet, but they are scaling up production quickly it probably doesn't work any better than Tamiflu - if you take it early, then helps you get better more quickly by intering with viral replication there are some safety concerns as patients in trials have had elevated liver enzymes
all that said - it doesn't surprise me in the least that the few doses available found their way to VIP patients that unfortunately, is how the world works
hope I'm wrong and the drug turns out to be more effective than expected and safe enough to take short term I also hope they come up with something better, like a vaccine that works.

Awful, Buttler. Well, we Argies come from you Italians, so it's not surprising if we copy your methods: we have it in our blood. At least in Italy they had the excuse that the capomaffias released were old people and as such, in risk (surely just an excuse). The prisioners they released here were in their 20s, 30s and 40s. Here's a cartoon someone made of the situation. What the guard is shouting is "don't forget to stay at home".

Anyway, changing subjects: what are you guys doing about physical excercise? Have you found ways of excercising yourself? If so, how? Have you created a walking circuit inside your house? Or have you completely given up on excercising? For example, how do you keep those bulgy biceps of yours, Horacewimp ? My trusty exercise bike lives right in front of my telly. When a programme's really gripping, I don't notice I'm exercising.

I was slightly off, the entire set of front pages of uk newspapers ran with a different pointless distraction... government advisor sex scandel. Yes on the day, the highest number death total in Europe is announced. Did the press hold the government's feet to the flames, Nope! ALL the right-wing papers ran with an advisor to Boris Johnson government having sex with a married woman. Given this is Boris Johnson not being talked about! so whilst the world looks on in dismay... www.theguardian.com/world/2020/may/06/complacent-uk-draws-global-criticism-for-covid-19-response-boris-johnsonThe UK Govt has again missed the daily 100,000 testing target for the 4th day in a row... infact they in theory have only reached it once and even that was capability to test (tests in the post) not actual tests conducted.... if this was the thick of it or Veep, i would say it was too unbelievable.

Horace posted that helpful warning about Tigers and Covid. Covid is dangerous. Tigers are dangerous. Mixing the 2 is deadly.
proving the point, Roy Horn of Siegfried & Roy fame, caught Covid-19 and passed away Mr Horn had previously had an unfortunate experience with one of his tigers, which crushed his windpipe during a show and led to a long rehab.
no disrespect intended for Roy, their Las Vegas act was terrific back in the day

After the latest confusing message from that useless so called leader....
I am sorry to those who live in England for his dangerous and stupid decisions.
Scottish and Welsh governments are having none of it and the advice remains unchanged stay at home, protect the NHS.

As bleak as it may seem to you, your fate is in better hands than ours is, dillwyn. God help us over here in the US! Fortunately, some of the governors have a bit of common sense and are actually trying to prioritize public health, even as they begin to gradually ease restrictions, but the intense pressure from the White House and from some segments of the public to ease more and more restrictions is testing their resolve, alas. Our family's habits will not be changing much, even though a few restrictions were lifted here in NC as of Friday evening.
