Gary Barlow interviewing Jeffrey about songwriting. Probably be on the sounds app later if you miss it.

It was a very enjoyable programme. No new revelations but Jeff came over as his usual modest and charming personality.

It seemed to be actually an older interview. He mentioned recording a new album and just finishing Wimbley or Bust. If thats the case, why air it now?

the interview is on YouTube now for those of us who missed it - Jeff let's his Brummie accent run rampant when talking with a fellow Brit

you can also play it back on the BBC site - might work better for some (skip past the first 3 minutes and 45 seconds to get straight to the Jeff material) www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m000d6vy

I've recorded it and am saving it for when I can devote all my attention to the words of the Lord Dame. It's great to see him finally being awarded a place among the top dogs of songwriting though, about time too.

Gary has a George Harrison drawl. Sounds like Geo at times.
Love this interview.

How old is this interview? I got excited when Jeff said he's working on another album until he said that he's also working on Wembley or Bust. Wembley has been awhile ago so I guess the new album Jeff's referring to is FOON. Rats! I had high hopes. However, I was impressed by some of the intelligent questions that were asked. I haven't been too happy with the lyrics on the new album, they seem kind of nonsensical, but Jeff said that he's more interested in a good tune than the lyrics so I have learned something.

Everything that Jeff said in this interview supports the my descriptions of his songwriting process in Five Legends, Five Guitars. I couldn't be more pleased at how well I pieced it together from dozens of interviews over the years.

I think its always been a given that Jeff is primarily a Tunesmith and his lyrics can best be described as functional but not mundane. But there's no shame in that as most rock/pop lyrics fit into that category. As far as I can tell he's never tried to say anything profound or personal (except for Birmingham Blues, obviously).

Was anyone able to listen to the We Write The Songs programme on BBC radio 2 On Saturday night? Gary Barlow from Take That presents and Jeff Lynne was the guest. It was a beautiful show - songwriter with songwriter. Really worth a listen. Jeff was so much more relaxed than with more run of the mill interviews. Gary asked Jeff what his favourite production/co-write song was. He said 'You Got It'.

This was fun. It seems like JL was a but more relaxed with Gary Barlow, since they're friends. Also, it's nice to know that Jeff's a Small Faces fan. Underrated band, IMO.

I haven't got round to listening to it yet but I remember it was supposed to be broadcast about a year ago. There were 2 episodes,Paul McCartney and Jeff. They were both cancelled. I don't know why. It's now a four part series with two new ones added on.
