My dear old mam always said "fire and water - they show no mercy". We're seeing that now in the tragedy down under. On the other side of the world, I feel completely helpless.

I have a couple of friends living in Australia, and reading their social media posts about the devastation this tragedy has caused really hits home. Too bad Australia has a clueless dumbass as Prime Minister.

I'm sure I heard a fire chief from one area saying they'd been predicting this for years as it's hardly rained and everything was getting drier and drier. But when they asked for upgraded firefighting equipment this was denied, presumably on the grounds of cost.

There's going to be a special charity concert for the Australian bush fires in February but I've heard it's already sold out. Queen are playing as are Alice Cooper and Dame Olivia N-J. Brian May says that the concert will be using Queen's own stage which they will have used for their show the previous night.

The smoke was so much it even reached Argentina. Not only Australia and Argentina are in the exact opposite time zones (which means it travelled half the world), but to do so the smoke also had to climb over 5,000 m.a.s.l. to pass the Andes range.
I have a cousin living in Melbourne and my uncles and cousins (her brothers and sisters) are all there too, visiting. What timing!
