When a ELO legend like Bev Bevan is playing a small venue only a couple of miles from your house it would be rude not to attend. Quill are a local Birmingham band popular particularly in the North East Birmingham area where I live who have been going strong playing local gigs with differing line ups since 1972, I think just the lead singer has remained constant. They are a folk/rock band and are now a seven piece including the one and only Bev Bevan. The hall they played at is Quinney Hall, Sutton Coldfield it has a maximum capacity of 100. Last night tables were laid out to sit at so reduced the capacity to about 80, it was sold out, as there is no bar you could bring along your own food and drinks. It was a very intimate surrounding and great for a christmas concert. The band played two one hour sets with a interlude in-between, they have an original back catalogue and so played many of those songs along with some Christmas favourites, a Black Sabbath song, ELO tracks (Telephone Line and Don't Bring Me Down) and The Move (California Man, Flowers In The Rain and Blackberry Way) the band are very professional and put on a great show. Bev played percussion and the drums he was on good form, he showed his age a little and seemed a little unsteady when climbing onto the stage, in his defence there were lots of cables it was a small stage and he is 75, I hope I'm as good as him when I reach that age. Bev took to the mike to introduce some songs ELO, Move, Black Sabbath and gave us the news he is recording a studio album next year (I assume with Quill) and on some tracks he is getting his mate Tony Iommi involved. If Quill are in your area be sure to see them, it will be worth it. www.quilluk.comPictures from last night, for some reason most are of the sexy drummer

Very nice photos of our Bevey. Thanks. How many times have you seen the sexy one? Can't wrap me head around him being 75! He's still a big man. Looks a strip down kit from his normal.

That was the third time in the last few years, didn’t mention that Bev is adept at Tambourine and Shakers, take note Mr Lynne give him a call for your next album both of you aren’t getting any younger let bygones be bygones

Oooh, so much sexyness in such a small space, is the second drummer there as a kind of buffer zone to protect the audience?
What was the Sabbath song they played? One of the slow ones?
Must agree, Bev is looking good for 75, he has plenty of hair which must be the envy of lots of his peers

Did Bev take Shane McGowans drunken vocals? Nah it was the bass guitarist John Jowitt, he did a good but funny job.
