Jeff's Facebook team recently (June 27th) replied to a fan's comment about their disappointment for Long Wave having no originals: "Jeff is working on a new album of all original tunes. Why not enjoy both? " Of course this is nothing we haven't heard before. Still, it's nice to know that Jeff is finally reaching out to his fans more. I wouldn't be surprised if Jeff's new album of originals came out really soon - this fall at the earliest, next summer at the latest. I just have a good feeling about it. P.S. I like this new blog. It's brighter.

If we consider the new songs ("One Day","Out Of Luck", "Cold Feet"...). We have got already a new album... Jeff mentioned in an interview last year that he had eight songs ready for a new album, and he needed a few more. The album will probably have 11 or 12 songs, maybe some bonus tracks too.

He also said some songs for the new album are "experimental", and have a different sound than most of his other work.

If two JL albums come out in the fall. I'd be happy about it. If it comes out a double album mix then it's even better.

one thing that i have noticed is when an artist get their own studio, the general sound and feel of their albums gets a bit samey. so if Jeff is going experimental and make it sound different to most of his other work, i am really looking forward to the new album.

Jeff's Facebook team recently (June 27th) replied to a fan's comment about their disappointment for Long Wave having no originals: "Jeff is working on a new album of all original tunes. Why not enjoy both? " Simply because the album of original material hasn't yet come out. For the time being we can only enjoy "Long Wave", and I'm much more interested in Jeff Lynne original material. BTW, welcome back, Bhabs. It's been a while since we knew of you in the old forum, hasn't it? I still remember your little joke about Jeff's new album's imminent release, in which you listed like 12 supposedly new songs with titles that came to your imagination and you included a couple of the new 2012 originals. I totally fell in for it, and I recall not being the only one.

It's nice to know this place is here. I wouldn't have known about it if it weren't for elodiscovery.com

If we consider the new songs ("One Day","Out Of Luck", "Cold Feet"...). We have got already a new album... Yes, but would you really want those tracks to be recycled for another release? It would be understandable for fans to feel short changed if that were to happen, IMO.
Looking back at the last couple of years: as much as I was put off by the original news of Long Wave, I grew to really like the album as a whole, and was actually more impressed by it than by the "newish" ELO bonus tracks that were released at around the same time.

Yeah, this definitely applies to Mr. Lynne as much as it does anyone else. The general sonic impression I have gotten from Jeff's work since his Wilburys period is that of (unfortunate) predictable flatness and dryness with unvaryingly simple drum patterns and sound featuring heavily.
Once again, it's great that Lynne was able to work and become friends with some of his heroes, but their seeming influence on his own material since then leaves a sometimes sour taste in one's mouth... but who knows for sure whether that period is what caused the changes in his production style.

Bah, production is production. A lot could be discussed about it, and in fact we discuss a lot probably because of the fact that Jeff Lynne is a producer, but at the end of the day production is just make-up, just a detail. What matters is songwriting. If the songs are good, it takes a catastrophic production work to ruin them, and if the songs are bad there will be no production in the world able to make them sound well.

He also said some songs for the new album are "experimental", and have a different sound than most of his other work. Now that is going to be interesting! However, I really love the "dry" Wilbury style sound.
