Just listened to this album for the first time in a while yesterday and it still puts a smile on my face. Always wondered how the single Slipping Away would have turned out if Jeff had kept it for Secret Messages or for himself. I went on to get ‘Riff Raff’, ‘I Hear You Rockin’, (Live), ‘Closer To The Flame’, and ‘Unplugged’ by Dave and also Rockpile’s ‘Seconds of Pleasure’ (Edmunds, Nick Lowe et al) - all thanks to my ELO fandom I was introduced to some more cool music.

I always wondered, if Jeff recorded a version of "slipping away" with his own vocals...it would have fit on secret messages for sure, as it has the same sound...and i have no idea, why Jeff didn't do any background vocals on the tracks, he produced for Dave! denny: If you enjoyed that Dave Edmunds albums, do yourself a favour and listen to his other albums as well...

Slipping Away, along with Let It Run from the Electric Dreams soundtrack, are both sort of the sound that comes to mind when you think of Jeff's music from that era.
Regarding the album Closer To The Flame, the first time I heard the title track I thought it was a JL production.

Sorry, the name of the one particular album was ‘Plugged In’ as it looks like Dave was taking the p*** on the trend of alll the unplugged and acoustic albums that everyone seemed to be putting out during that era.
