Abbey Road 50th anniversary of photo shoot

Hearing that "there was to be a celebration" at Abbey Road this morning, my colleague went there to film the crowds, interview some of the participants. 

Yes, that's me at 2:49, dressed up as Lovely Rita Meter Maid. Hope this film plays OK...

I just saw CNN coverage of the event. It was a good piece they did, buy why didn't they talk to Lovely Rita? 

The reporter said that they closed down the street temporarily today, and a local bus driver  who was interviewed said that there is almost always someone crossing for a photo every day, all day long, every time she gets to that place on her route.

Me and my mates did the crossing about 20 years ago, it wasn't that busy though! The walls that surround the studio were full of Beatles graffiti but we didn't add to it although looking back I could have wrote something regarding Jeff I suppose...

35 years ago for me. I was touring Europe and 3 other guys and I recreated the photo. Got 2 strangers to take photos (2 cameras each), so that we'd all have a souvenir (no digital photos or e-mail back then). We argued a little about who would be Paul and cross sans footwear. Once we agreed on "who was supposed to be who" in the photo, we got the order messed up anyway. Remember a guy in a little British car yelling at us to go back to America as he sped by.

I was looking out for you in the BBC news website pictures but no luck. They plainly need a lesson in how to spot the most important person at an event, tsk. Bet there was a great atmosphere though, it's one of those once in a lifetime happenings.

Heh, great idea, Horace. Didn't even think of that.

But I was carrying a pad of white Post-it notes. Whenever anyone enjoyed my outfit, I stopped them and asked "This your vehicle, sir?" Then I wrote them a "ticket" - that is, a message saying "All you need is love" on one of these notes. Then I handed them their Ticket To Ride with a cautionary "Mind how you go". 

The American Beatles historian seemed to enjoy this, that's how my colleague got the interview with him.

Great appearance, vlogdance, it wouldn't have been you if you hadn't thrown in like 3 puns per second. And nice costume, it fits you well (although the bag across your shoulder made you look a little like a military man ).

Tough day at the office for that poor policeman, what a chaos! Given the day it was, why didn't they just cut the street and let the crowd celebrate? Also, the people that drove through that street that very day, did they really need to? Couldn't they have found a way around it?

By the way, I still think that Abbey Road is the greatest album of all time by any artist.
