I think they've only just made beer legal there, it's strange. Love the 105 year old runner, what a brilliant story eloneen No beer?!? - that seemed outrageous, so I consulted the internet. Apparently, Iceland has outlawed all sorts of normal things at one time or another. << They were dark years in an already dark nation—between 1915 and 1989, beer was banned in Iceland. What began as a temperance-fueled, all-alcohol prohibition in 1915 morphed to a ban on just beer in 1933. The ban was mostly political, as BBC writer Megan Lane explained earlier this year: Iceland was struggling to gain independence from Denmark, and beer was associated with the Danish lifestyle. At the time, drinking beer was not only illegal, but unpatriotic. Officials also expressed concern that because beer was cheaper than other alcohol, it might increase alcohol abuse rates. But necessity is the mother of invention, and to combat beer’s prohibition, drinkers came up with a new cocktail called bjórlíki. The drink featured non-alcoholic beer mixed with a shot of Brennivín, a vodka-like spirit referred to as the “black death” by locals. Beer was finally legalized on March 1, 1989. Each year on March 1, Icelanders remember the occasion with “Beer Day,” a drunken night out that recreates the moment the country welcomed back its beer. >> www.smithsonianmag.com/travel/illegal-in-iceland-180957521/#:~:text=Beer%20They%20were%20dark%20years%20in%20an%20already,to%20a%20ban%20on%20just%20beer%20in%201933.

Interesting article orioles70, those Icelanders really take against things, don't they?

I like how Christmas lights can be projected now - no more climbing up the ladder and painstakingly hanging strand by strand of lights only to find that one of them doesn't work. If only they had an ELO light show. Dancing letters on the walls, Santa's spaceship flying by leaving a trail of vlogdance limericks drifting above the clouds ... maybe Horace can work up some special features for the forum this advent season

You’ll have to settle with the snow flakes and floating Santas like previous years

What an epic gig! High on a hill in Yorkshire, fans set out for a Friday night show at the pub. Noasis played as if they had some asis. Many pints were consumed. But at the end of the show, three feet of snow blocked the road back to town.
A one night gig became a 2 night session and then a three night festival -“ Snowasis.”
Are any of our forum friends there? Has the pub run out of crisps and ale? Has the singer’s voice gone froggy?
Sounds like a good set up for an Agatha Christie book.

I saw Noasis back in 90s at a V festival in Leeds! (wasn't very snowy at the time though...)

*edit* I saw an oasis tribute band called No Way Sis not Noasis. They were so popular that a song of theirs actually charted in the UK.
