This is very good news indeed, and I don't think Chris Evans will allow him to avoid playing a few more UK shows. I agree too that the new album would appear to be intended as a second solo album - that's how he was describing it in the interviews when Long Wave came out. There's a very juicy story there, never been able to get to the bottom of it though. Maybe he had a couple of beers too many and out it popped. The snarkiness I mean - stop sniggering!

So are there any now that he really understands better than he did during the first ELO run? "Yeah, I wrote it before I met my second wife, but 'Evil Woman' turned out to be a prophecy in me own lunch time." First I've read something that snarky from Our Jeff! Haha! Oh my god... That's the mother of his children, am I right? I read an interview - I think with a producer or engineer who worked with ELO. The guy said something like "Yeah, Jeff says his songs are just made up but I can tell you that A LOT of them are about his second wife."

I'm thinking his US tour will consist of big cities and metropolitan areas such as New York City, Los Angeles, and maybe Chicago. And I really don't think the new album will be under the ELO banner, unless his record company asks him to do so. By the way, is he still signed with Frontier Records? I'm counting on New York!

It's weird, when they got together they were like Love's Young Dream, all the soppy songs on Discovery and Secret Messages were about her. Something pretty devastating must have happened to reverse all that and produce some of the negative songs that came after. Life can do that to you

Artists find inspiration in lots of things. Maybe for us it was better that he was angry because he had a motivation and an inspiration source to write all the great songs he wrote in that period. Where do you usually find your inspiration, unomusette?

Where do you usually find your inspiration, unomusette? Hmmm, well it depends what I'm being inspired to do. Doesn't take much at all to convince me that a bucket of cheap french red is a good idea for a start. Sometimes just the sight of it is enough. I'm inspired to join in loudly to appropriate arse-kicking music at most times of the day if it's being played, but doing housework at the same time does encourage me. In most of my creations here I am of course inspired by The Lord Dame himself, my delightful and charming forum-mates, and most of all my twisted, inventive and glorious fellow monster-ette BSJ. If it weren't for you lot I'd probably be sitting here in the dark writing indigestible poetry and becoming a goth. In other news I do feel that a lot of artists write their best stuff when things aren't going well for them. Being happy and contented doesn't make you want to rant and rave as much.

It's a shame there's no confirmation of any more UK dates but isn't Billboard American? Maybe the confirmation that Jeff will be taking ELO to the states was for the benefit of the readership, I like to think Jeff would say he'd be playing in the UK soon too if he was interviewed by a UK publication.
I know I should be excited that Jeff's beavering away at a new album but he's been working on it for the past two years at least. Whether it's an ELO album or a Jeff Lynne album I don't care, I just want it now! The waiting is getting tiring but my enthusiasm is not.
The article says that Jeff is working on new ELO music - to us there's a difference between Jeff-music and ELO-music but to the uninitiated Jeff and ELO are the same thing. I think this album will be wholly Jeff-music because it's the record he's been working on for so long. However, I think it's likely to have the ELO stamp put upon it by the record company in order to sell more copies now the name's big again.

Haha I love how I'm the only one here who is excited about Jeff playing in the US, and everybody else is crying over it. I'm sure he'll play more UK dates. But if he comes to Chicago or Minneapolis...I am there. Heck, I'd travel to LA if I had to.

It's a wee bit unsettling out there, so I'm just hiding and watching. Chicago would be perfect! I'll see you somewhere at a concert in this great land of ours!

To me it's almost the same if he plays in the UK, the US or Siberia.
And Uno, I found your inspiration sources quite interesting.

From what I've heard, the South American audiences are completely bonkers and make for a fabulous concert experience. Do you want BSJ and I to work on the Lord Dame for you? Chuffed to hear my inspirations interested you, but now of course it's your turn to spill the beans *expectant*

No, as far as I know the Lord Dame has never come not even remotely close to these latitudes. Saying that from a geographical point of view the closest he's ever been is LA gives you an idea of how far and unreachable he's ever been to us. I had never thought, though, about using both your influence and BSJ's on him to try to persuade him for me... interesting...
My inspiration to do what, for example? My inspiration to sweep my room comes when cockroaches lift me up on weight and carry me from one side of the room to the other as if I were an ebony idol. My inspiration to go to the supermarket comes when I have to eat grated cheese for dinner. And my inspiration for music... well, I'll tell you where it comes from when it actually comes.

I'll bet, given the talent, she could write a few songs about him too.
