my favourite of theirs is regeneration.... great songs, great musicians, great producer bad ambassador gets the views but this is equally as good as a song in my view

Actually this thread made me listen to the album again today .... superb ...Scott Walker meets Radiohead thanks to Producer Nigel Goodrich who quite quite brilliant.
i found this tonight ... i could not have that many people in the studio it would do my head in.

I have Regeneration but I think I've only listened to it a couple of times as it didn't grab me the way some of their other albums have. Victory for the Comic Muse and Fin de Siecle are my favourites I'd say. I remember being madly chuffed when I discovered what a big ELO fan Neil Hannon is

I remember being madly chuffed when I discovered what a big ELO fan Neil Hannon is i must admit i'm not familiar with those ..i will look them up Regeneration producer also produced ok computer by Radiohead which is constantly in my top 10 albums of all time. it is amazing just what a massive influence he had on both records ..infact there are parts it is difficult to tell the difference in the approach to instrumentation/recording only the song lyrics, voice and melodies differ.... i appreciate it is darker than DC normal style, very interesting departure for them at the point. i can see why they moved away from it though, Travis and Coldplay are much better being the happy Radiohead

I think Regeneration was written during/after a divorce hence the mostly dark content. Personally I prefer the more light-hearted songs but I think the lyrics are cleverly done whichever mood Neil is in.

Like Uno said earlier,Neil is a big ELO fan so I wouldn't be surprised if this was a nod to them....
