I never 'got' the stones either, like you say a few good songs here and there but over achievers in my book.

I'm sure I read somewhere that if there had been no Beatles, the Dave Clark Five would have been the biggest band of the 60s. I'm not sure how a DC5-influenced Jeff would have turned out. I don't think they would have been the biggest band, the Tottenham court sound only existed due to The Beatles being around, I doubt success would have come their way if Merseybeat hadn't happened...

if no Beatles, we wouldn't have gems like this little known photo of the 5th Beatle ; ) telling Ringo to comb his hair and Paul to put some proper shoes on

I'm going to check out the movie at some point this summer. Sounds interesting! Tangential comment here (I never do that ): I know people call the Rolling Stones the greatest rock and roll band in the world. I just don't see it. They have never been even remotely appealing to me as a band. I only like a few of their songs, and I'm actually a bit repulsed by them. I know they've tried to cultivate the bad boy image, and I guess they just overachieved in my case. To each his/her own. I've got my ELO, so I'm good! Must say I agree with you, although they don't go as far as repulsing me. Mick Jagger makes me laugh with his prancing about and pouting (and of course he's experimented with eyeliner which is always a winner with me) and to still be doing that at his age is impressive. The songs are mostly listenable but I find the Beatles' songs more original sounding and quirky.

Saw Yesterday er....yesterday and Mrs T and I thoroughly enjoyed it! Good story if a little cliche'd at times but the music more than made up for that. Himesh sang all the songs himself and Lily James was great too. Only thing that spoiled it for me was Ed Sheerrzzzzzzzzzzzzzz sorry,I always nod off when I mention him (to be fair,he did send himself up a bit such as having his own song as his ringtone...) apparently it was originally intended for Chris Martin to be in Ed's place,oh well... Anyway,I'd give it 8/10

I haven't seen the movie yet so don't want to say anything negative but although I like the idea of the complications thrown up by a Beatles-less world, I'm sure a more substantial film could have been achieved from the premise instead of a glossy Richard Curtis number.
At least the main character could have been Liverpudlian!
And Ed? Because I haven't watched the film yet I don't know what his role is, but I'm pretty sure if a songwriter appeared on the music scene who seemed to write the most perfect pop songs ever, Ed Sheeran would be way down the list of that songwriter's contacts. The Beatles music is nothing like Ed's anyway!

we finally got around to seeing the movie, Yesterday
2 thumbs up! great music, the plot was better than expected, Lily James, and even some Jeff Lynne parallels?
it's not going to win movie of the year or anything, but very entertaining
as for the Jeff parallels
{Spoiler} the love interest is a school teacher - like Jeff's first wife it's quite apparent that it will be difficult for a globe trotting rock star and a working school teacher to keep up a romantic relationship the singer has to decide whether to leave England for Los Angeles the action builds to a big concert at Wembley when asked who wrote the songs - me, and me only, which the manager suggests as the album title an evil manager - ala Don Arden the singer's big song before adding the Beatles is about the Summertime - though it's not much like MBS

it's quite apparent that it will be difficult for a globe trotting rock star and a working school teacher to keep up a romantic relationship Grroosss and nobodyschild , I think I forgot to mention this, but as I said would happen (more after reading your review), I ended up going to the cinema with my mother to watch "Yesterday", so thanks for your advice. All in all, I liked it. It gave us both a pleasant and entertaining moment. I think the main idea of the movie was pretty original and made up for great situations, some of which are depicted in the movie (some others are squandered). Also, hearing the Beatles' songs covered by other artists always makes you rediscover their beauty. {Spoiler} it's quite apparent that it will be difficult for a globe trotting rock star and a working school teacher to keep up a romantic relationship More than that, it sounded to me quite weird all through the movie that a gorgeous British (thus local) young lady would be in love with a non-fit, non-slim, non-smart, good for nothing Asian immigrant. Say what you want about love, but how often do these things happen in reality? The character of the ambitious, materialistic manager, while too much out of a comedy, was still glorious.
