I see there's a new movie coming out called Yesterday which might be of interest -
The premise appears to be that the Beatles never existed . It looks like a good film but I'm not sure I'll see it as I'm allergic to Richard Curtis and the Sheeran boy brings me out in a rash.
Also, if the Beatles never existed does Jeff even exist? All of a sudden a light musical comedy has turned into a horror movie for the ELO fans.

no Beatles, no influence on young Jeff, no ELO, no A New World Record - that sounds like a dystopian horror show indeed

Saw the movie by watching the trailer. No Jeff? No us!

We are planning on going to see it so I'll post a review then. Critics schmitics...I NEVER listen to them, it's only one persons view after all, what gives them the right to tell me if a film or whatever is any good?

I'm sorry, was Jeff conceived to the sounds of "I wanna hold your hand" ? I missed that anecdote! Jeff would have still done something big... Beatles or no Beatles. He still would have been influenced by Roy O. and Del Shannon and he has described being influenced by the music in movies he went to see as a young boy... he would have made something different but it would still have been good.

That's exactly right, Jeff has always been driven so like you say, he would have succeeded somehow...

I have great respect for the Beatles and for their place in music history, and I enjoy a lot of their music, but I can't say that I have any serious level of devotion to them. That said, the movie sounds like it might be interesting.

I'm sure I read somewhere that if there had been no Beatles, the Dave Clark Five would have been the biggest band of the 60s. I'm not sure how a DC5-influenced Jeff would have turned out.

nobodyschild and I saw it on Saturday, and now we’re trying to drag our parents with us to see it again... Critics will be critics, but we loved it. It was a very cool premise for the plot but I had worried that the film would be cheesy, however I thought they did a great job with it and lead actor Himesh Patel portrayed his character well. There were certainly plot elements that could’ve been explored in better depth, but I can overlook those, and hey, it makes for great discussion after watching. Without giving too much away, I’ll just say: Lots of lighthearted laughs, a few very sweet and touching scenes, a great message, and plenty of Easter eggs for the Beatles fans.

*review may or may not be affected by the fact that I am a huge Beatlemaniac... 🙃

The Beatles were awesome but they have been given waaaay too much credit for the success of many artist especially Jeff Lynne. Sure it would have been a shame if there were no Beatles but the world would have survived somehow.

I'm going to check out the movie at some point this summer. Sounds interesting! Tangential comment here (I never do that ): I know people call the Rolling Stones the greatest rock and roll band in the world. I just don't see it. They have never been even remotely appealing to me as a band. I only like a few of their songs, and I'm actually a bit repulsed by them. I know they've tried to cultivate the bad boy image, and I guess they just overachieved in my case. To each his/her own. I've got my ELO, so I'm good!
