There must be something extra special about the name "Jeff"... Last night I finally gave in and went to see The War Of The Worlds live on stage. The original and 'new generation' albums are essential listening. What I saw - and heard - last night was incredible. If you've have the opportunity to see it, you'll know what I mean. The album, and show, are a close-knit, almost family, affair. It's not just Jeff Wayne's family that have been and still are involved, but musicians on the original album from 40 years ago are still playing their part. They may be in their 'twilight' years, but boy, can they play! The guitarists in question - Herbie Flowers and Chris Spedding. Cast... Journalist and narrator, Liam Neeson. Not there in person, but in film. Neatly interacting with other cast members. The Artilleryman was Adam Garcia. My favourite of the whole bunch, to be honest. Jason Donovan was the parson. Jeff's daughter played the journalist's wife, Carrie. The singing thoughts of the journalist were provided by Newton Faulkner. While he sang Forever Autumn, leaves fell from the ceiling. Simple, but very effective. A very good night was had by all.

I would love to go see this! But, sadly, I'm a 'merkican so I can't.
I didn't know the album existed 'til I saw it posted on here. Mr elophile bought it for me - it's pretty cool!

WOW! The fighting machine on stage is great. As are the ones they show on film. The music gets your heart thumping.

I am so envious of you tremblinwilbury . I would have gone to the Echo in Liverpool to see it if Jeff Wayne had got there before Jeff Lynne.
Before hearing it I was deeply sceptical about the new generation album but while it lacks Richard Burton and Justin Hayward it makes up for it by sounding very fresh and clear.
TWOTW was the bridge that got me from listening to classical music back into rock and straight into ELO. To me both Jeffs do the same thing - blend rock and classical ideas together to create something incredible.

The footage of the live event looks amazing, I'd seriously consider going to see it next time around
