The guy in the video is 100% a professional autograph seeker, and was going to sell the guitar. Watch other videos, and you'll see celebs confronting these professional autograph seekers, and calling them out. They make the real fans look bad.
As for the Chris Groucutt "interview", I'll be totally honest and say that it's kind of shady of Rick(trekkielo) to share a private conversation like that. I'm not surprised that trekki would do that, though. Know what I mean?
There are things I was told by some of those in the inner circle, back when I ran the old ELO Forever forum. Some of these things confirmed that Jeff was indeed very protective of the ELO name and legacy. However, some of the info that was shared with me paints Kelly in a very bad light, and would come off as somewhat shitty if I shared them , since the poor guy isn't around to defend himself. To me, it's all water under a thirty-five year old bridge and has no relevance to anything happening today.

Jeff's recent approach to dealing with fans hoping to give him demo recordings is quite common within the industry, and you only have to look at how he handled members of The Sumo Giants over several visits in the mid '80s to see that his stance was once very different. I'm not suggesting any one incident was responsible for him becoming more closed off, but it speaks volumes that we now live in a world where so-called fans will hack into the IT systems of hotels and airports so they can intercept musicians to sign stacks of albums, instruments or even baseballs (yes, I've seen people try the latter!) that will inevitably surface on eBay for massively inflated prices before the day is out. Since he rarely goes anywhere without either Phil Hatton or Craig Fruin nearby these days, Jeff is lucky in that he's often got someone who can detect real fans over regular faces on the professional autograph hunting scene - and yes, it really is a profession for some people!
P.S. I rarely discuss this particular detail of my life, but I was the co-founder of a small local independent label and talent recruitment agency, which I started at college with some friends as a Young Enterprise scheme. Because we were also active in a band, our legal advisor suggested we hire someone whose sole task was to audition material sent to us in the event some bold individual tried going serving the venture with a plagiarism lawsuit after they were rejected, meaning that only acts we were most likely to sign ever reached my direct attention. Even then, we only heard prepared samples that our scout felt were the best demonstration of a potential client's talents. From what I can tell, that's pretty much how any similar company in the music industry works. Now, back to my current job as someone who "plays" a far less melodic type of keyboard...

I don't think it was an airport. As far as I can remember he was arriving at a radio. Like I say. Stalker or pro-autograph hunter. Go figure. Nice self-quoting, I'm sure it gives your words a whole new level of authority knowing that you have yourself backing what you are saying. Call them whatever you like, it happens to every star in the world. Look at how many "stalkers" and "pro-autograph hunters" these celebrities have: Jeff Lynne had one.

I always get the same reception when I’m at the airport but now I’ve now worked out it’s just taxi drivers trying to relieve me of my hard earned money. I was however pounced upon by a manic ELO fan at Detroit airport

The nerve! If you didn't sign her any autograph you did well, she was going to sell it anyway. Seriously, what a clash of titans.

How do you know he’s only had one? And what is your point? That Jeff is an arsehole and a complete shit because he dissed of a pain in the arse autograph hunter on the make? Good point well made. Well done.😉

Well done.😉 I know it because I watched the video. And I'll help your reading comprehension by repeating once again my point: we have seen a fair amount of things that would reasonably lead to believe that Jeff could well not be the very pleasant and nice man many people believe he is (and I once believed as well, before I started opening my eyes to these things).

Oh I’ve read all of it pal. But I think that last post sums you up quite nicely. I don’t need to ‘play smart’ as you say.. I’m sure others will make up their own minds. Have a nice day 😉

Oh, dear me!!! Play nice, boys. Here, I've solved it: either Jeff is a giant dickhead (pardon my french) or he's a total sweetie... either way it really shouldn't matter to us because we don't know him. He seems like a nice enough guy to me and he's given us all so much after all. I mean, he hasn't murdered anyone as far as we know. Right?

Both the original thread subject and the off topic discussion of “is Jeff nice” are very controversial subjects, I will let the thread run for the moment but it will be locked if we can’t discuss the topics in a friendly manner.
