More of a "latest acquisitions of interest" post but since it's not ELO, I'll refrain from derailing that thread...
I received a special delivery from London the other day, my CD from the wonderful band known as The 286! They're big fans of ELO and they're not afraid to let it show in their songs. A couple of my favorites:

I've fallen down a YouTube rabbit hole of 70's soul and R&B, and I don't wanna come out.... Definitely some fine music there! Brings back lots of fun childhood memories. I remember enjoying some great tunes as a kid, as I was getting my older brother's castoff 70s R&B and soul music 45s when he got tired of them or they got scratched. I would play them on my little plastic "suitcase" record player over and over again. (Anyone else had one of those?) The O' Jays, Gladys Knight and the Pips, The Spinners, and my guilty favorite - Let's Just Kiss and Say Goodbye by the Manhattans. The story in the song was scandalous for me as a child (along with Me and Mrs. Jones by Billy Paul), but I loved singing it anyway. Check out the tight blue jumpsuits... Classic 1970s style! Here's Daryl Hall (of course) doing a cover of Me and Mrs. Jones. He does quite a nice job of it here!

Great stuff eloneen . Here's an artist carrying on that soul and R&B tradition, albeit with his own unique twist..Michael Kiwanuka.

GrroosssI thought that perhaps the band's name was based on the old Intel chips (which could be considered very "old school") (For two years from 1982 to 1984, the 286 was the fastest consumer Intel desktop processor you could buy) but I did some research and learned that the 286 is a highway in the UK

Bob is 70...
With the Rats. The Late Late devoted Friday's show to Bob on his birthday. Greetings came from Michael D Higgins, Sting (revealing that he's just a little bit older than Bob), Ringo, Roger Waters... and many more.

here's one that should be on ELO fans radar - or perhaps their Christmas list?
Weezer's 2021 album was recorded with a 38 piece orchestra. It sounds like Ben Folds 5 produced by Jeff Lynne. Longtime Weezer fans might miss the wall of guitar sound, but not to worry they put out a new album every time you turn around. This album scratches their itch for Beach Boys, ELO, symphonic pop sounds.

I love the sly sideways glance to see how the crowd was reacting and I really thought he was going to break into laughter a couple of times. But he did a great job and then the oh so understated seque back to the service: "ok, now ... a final blessing". A very cool priest.
