Another icon (of sorts) passes away, probably not known outside these shores but a cult figure up here in the North. I saw The Fall (great name for a band!) in 1987 supporting U2 in Leeds and I've never seen a band have so many bottles thrown at them! An acquired taste but he played it his way and took few prisoners....

He was a one-off and well thought of by his fellow musicians which is always a mark of a good 'un. Plus he had an impressively curmudgeonly attitude although he took his music seriously. On Twitter, Jeremy Vine has told how he once sang a whole gig from the dressing room as he felt too under the weather to take the stage. RIP, respect due.

This is very sad. I was as shocked by Mark's death as I was by Tom Petty's. There has never and will never be another person like him.
Who else can get through over 60 band members and release goodness knows how many LPs? I remember listening to John Peel and being informed nearly every evening that Mark had a new album out.
I can't pick a favourite song but I'll go with this -
