Man, first "Last train to London", now "I'm alive"? Your middle name has to be "corny"... If there's one thing I like about pop rock is the corny stuff. That's why I love The Beach Boys. I mean, I always felt distant with those who like Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple. I study music in a local institute and there's a class where we play together, like a band. I always try to insert some tracks to make the repertoire diverse, but they will dismiss my ideas because they're very "pink". I wanna play Careless Whisper, Give Me the Night, You Make My Dreams Come True, etc. But they're always there to say no and choose heavier tracks (Spinetta's "Cheques", Charly García, Beatles' "Taxman", etc). At least I got to play Showdown, in a very distorted way that I did not approve. So your middle name was "Corny" indeed... "Careless Whisper"... I can't understand how George Michael went so long without people knowing he was gay after he made the videoclip of that song. It was an evident coming out of the closet which apparently no one understood. I mean, was it so hard to guess? Pink Floyd is not my cup of tea either and it bores me to death, so I understand you when it comes to that. But the Beach Boys... man, was there ever a more awful band on the planet. I don't dislike them because of corny -which as you said they are- but because I can't stand men singing like women. Are you studying music as your main career or as a side activity?

. Are you studying music as your main career or as a side activity? Just as a side activity. And that's what amazes me about the Beach Boys. They could sing like women (Jeff does this a lot). Mike Love's vocal range is amazing!

Mike Love's vocal range is amazing! But Jeff sings like a woman on certain circumstances, it's one more of the vocal resources he has. The Beach Boys sing like women full time. I remember having seen a cover of "Can't get it out of my head" by you, it was great, and you must have only gotten better with time if you are studying so intensely (I assume a musical institute means it is intense). I envy you for having started young. My family are all null when it comes to music so I only started learning some music as a grown up. I lost a lot of time.

It's not that intense now, unfortunately . Not any more technique classes but groupal practices. But I always try to make a faithful cover! That's not very fair, the statement about the BB. To be honest it's Brian who usually does the woman stuff, maybe Carl too. Mike, Dennis, Al and Bruce all deliver very male vocals. Especially post-Pet Sounds stuff gets more experimental and way less corny, with fewer falsetto voices, left only for the instrumental background. Not that these are part of their best output but they got to change their ways a lot. After all, ELO went big with Jeff's corny productions. CGIOOMH features a third and a fifth voice over the chorus and has a "corny" keyboard solo. Strange Magic has like, 5 (?) high voices. And what about Telephone Line, Turn to Stone, It's Over, Sweet Talkin' Woman, Night in the City, Jungle, Concerto for a Rainy Day, Birmingham Blues, Shine a Little Love, Wishing, Don't Bring Me Down, Ticket to the Moon, The Way Life's Meant to Be, Epilogue, Heaven Only Knows... The list is endless and features virtually every ELO song starting on Tightrope... Jeff got rid of the women that sung on Face the Music and delivered those female voices himself!

Just played I'm Alive with my new headphone amp babyzoomer and you are right,it sounds good! I'm interested in the Syba Sonic SD-DAC63106 Stereo 3 Band Tone Control Pre-amp and Headphone Amplifier... But it's unavailable in Oz thru the usual 'Azamon' supplier (dunno why but that supplier has only just opened shop here in Oz); I can get it via Ebay but at silly money prices (about $300 in Oz money). Any thoughts? I'm looking for low noise amp with tone controls or a small graph equal.

After being out sick for so many days, and my students wondering about my well-being (since it's very unlike me to be out so long), I played "I'm Alive" as my intermediate students were arriving into the classroom today. They had not heard it before, but were mildly amused and very happy to see me.
