Just try listening to this song - absolutely flat out on volume 11 - and share with the joy of a song well worth the effort.
Sadly condemned through it's association with the dumper Xanadu movie, this song (which lacks the commercial validity earned by it's sister song Xanadu) is still a feast for the ears. Do yourself a favour - and do it LOUD!!!!!!

I think all of ELOs songs from the film were overlooked for so long and it's only now that they are being appreciated. Jeff says on the Wembley or Bust dvd that Xanadu is now his favourite song, and AOTW is now a staple set list song. I'd love to see IA and DWA sung at future concerts.

"I'm Alive" has never been a favorite of mine, but I do love "Don't Walk Away." It's the high-pitched, repetitive vocals that grate...

Always loved that song!
Over this past Christmas season, anytime I heard "Christmas All Over Again" I noticed the similarities between that song and "I'm Alive" and would usually sing IA over the top of Tom's lyrics. (God rest his soul)

IA has never been a big favourite of mine too but it's ok in its own right. You are right about DWA (sooooo epic) and even The Fall isn't too bad.You never know, Jeff may add one of these to future concerts!

It was the first 7" ELO record I bought - for the B-side really but the A-side played loud on a record player is something special.

The other day I was thinking... There was a thread to choose a new tour opening song. I didn't say it there but here it is:
ELO's next tour should kick off with I'm Alive.

Man, first "Last train to London", now "I'm alive"? Your middle name has to be "corny"... If there's one thing I like about pop rock is the corny stuff. That's why I love The Beach Boys. I mean, I always felt distant with those who like Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple. I study music in a local institute and there's a class where we play together, like a band. I always try to insert some tracks to make the repertoire diverse, but they will dismiss my ideas because they're very "pink". I wanna play Careless Whisper, Give Me the Night, You Make My Dreams Come True, etc. But they're always there to say no and choose heavier tracks (Spinetta's "Cheques", Charly García, Beatles' "Taxman", etc). At least I got to play Showdown, in a very distorted way that I did not approve.

You keep trying,I'm sure one day those who dismiss your choices will give way...
