Alright, sounds good, we'll do it your way Helmut, since you are taking the ambition to mix it, etc. I think there was some confusion on my initial idea, which was just for people to send in one of their own songs finished as is, and then we would put them all on a CD for everyone to hear. But your idea is fine for now, so let's go with that! Jim As you preferr! I said that because I imagine most people here can't compose and record songs on their own, but could contribute with certain bits, like the lyrics, the singing, a cowbell, a tambourine or something if we did a song all together, and only like that hey could be part of the game. I want Horace, BSJ & Co. to join in, so if they can't write a whole song, adding something would be the way. Also, I want to avoid the embarassment of having to sing in my own song. Yup, good thinking, we'll do it your way. And I'm sure your singing is fine! After hearing my vocals, I'm sure you know yours could only sound far better. Jim

I was in a band at school and was in charge of hitting the demo button on the Casio keyboard I did write a song called Rocket Waste, it serously ripped off Momma by ELO. the name of our band was The Gurts. I can't sing but could do some percussion work.

Jim You can be sure not, my vocals are much worse. I have a very deep pitch when I speak but when I sing I have difficulty in hitting the lower notes (as well as the high ones), so nothing makes sense with my freaking voice. And I listened to both of your songs songs. I liked "Kennedy drive" very much. It has a good feeling to it. I would have recorded your voice with less reverb (like in the other song), but that's personal taste. With a few more instruments it could sound more polished. I also liked the other, it's more quiet and country-like. The only problem I've got now is that my electric guitar isn't well calibrated. I will be taking it to a luthier on Monday, but it takes one week for him to do the job. Hopefully that isn't a problem because I know we have a few other guitar players here.

Well if you heard my voice on the original take of "Kennedy Drive", you would be thankful for the reverb. But I'm glad you like the song overall though! It's a chord progression I had since I was in high school or so, and I knew it just needed words, so one Sunday afternoon I just tinkered around with words while my daughter was baking in the kitchen, and that's what I came up with. The idea behind the lyrics is the joy of having carefree time with our loved ones. Jim

Although if you are a singer-songwriter and professional musician I'm afraid you will find our standards pretty low (and possibly annoying) and you would find it much better if you recorded all by yourself. You will have to have a lot of patience if you want us to collaborate. In any case, it's great to know that we can rely on a musician for certain things.

OK Helmut, since you hi-jacked this thread (like I was secretly hoping you would do when I started it, to be honest ), you'll just have everyone send their stuff to you? So that's three songs we have, maybe if we get enough, we can put out the CD of just the tracks sent to you, all the while working on the one? Jim

Jim Of course, just send me the stuff with your ideas (what does it lack, what could we add, what could we do with it, how could we finish it) to my email or upload it to YouTube (if you want everyone to hear it) and we'll see what we can do and who could add something to that. About my supposed song... it doesn't really exist. I thought the thread was a joke and invented one title, but I haven't got a song named like that. I have other songs though, but the problem is that none of them have lyrics in English. Maybe I could send you the melody and someone could write some lyrics.

It sounds like we should have two separate threads, one for just sending finished songs/instrumentals to compile for one CD. And another thread for building songs, or a song. Seems like the two ideas are getting in eachother's way, here. Thoughts? Jim

Yeah, you are right, I'm derailing the thread here.
In any case, the only song I've got recorded at this moment and in conditions to contribute is the one I sent you by email.

It's all very well you trying to drag me into this, but I must warn you that I can fight back with my epic skills at playing the recorder. Not the nice low-toned one that Woody used to play, but the horrid high pitched plastic one they make little kids learn at school.

Uno and I are laying it out with our talents, and will give it our all. A cowbell and dollar store recorder! Magic!
