Congratulations to The Moody Blues who will be inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame next year. Good to see another great Birmingham band honoured two years running.

I saw this earlier today, too. Glad to see them in, finally! Congrats to the Moody Blues and the others, especially Dire Straits, Nina Simone, and The Cars! I don't care much for Bon Jovi and don't know much yet about Sister Rosetta Tharpe.

I don't care much for Bon Jovi and don't know much yet about Sister Rosetta Tharpe. Sister Rosetta Tharpe is considered a hugely influential figure in popular music (particularly rock and roll) but from the Gospel side of things rather than R'n'B. Unlikely to be in attendance though, as she died in 1973! Apparently MB founding members, Denny Laine and Clint Warwick are not being inducted , which is strange.

Thanks fourlittlediamonds ! Just reading up on her, I see now how little I knew about someone so important in rock history! Nina Simone won't be there either as she sadly passed away in 2003.

Dire Straits!! That's fantastic news, a reunion show would be amazing, but I can't see it happening, I don't think Mark Knopfler is interested.

I wonder why DL and CW have been left out, is it because they had left the band before The Moodies had made it big in the US? I can't think of any other reason and if so then why was Roy honoured when he had left before ELO cracked America? #just summising

Very deserving class, this year. Even Bon Jovi are worth recognition because they sorta rose above the hair metal label and did their their own thing.
As for what songs the bands should perform?
The Cars- Just What I Needed, Let's Go, and maybe Drive.
Dire Straits- They definitely need to do Money For Nothing(oh the irony). I'd also say they would likely perform Sultans of Swing, and Walk of Life.
Moody Blues- Nights In White Satin is a must, as is I'm Just A Singer in a Rock and Roll Band. Maybe round it out with either Go Now, or Your Wildest Dreams.
Bon Jovi- You Give Love a Bad Name, Wanted Dead or Alive, and Livin on a Prayer.

This is the first induction I've seen where I agree with every artist (Still no Procol Harum though ).
I still don't like the RARHOF presenting itself as a gatekeeper of who is and who isn't important enough to be in a "hall of fame". Every artist is important if they have had influence and chart success, we don't need some guys in Cleveland to tell us and surely it doesn't benefit any of the artists other than to give them a little exposure - exposure which is minimal in comparison to the huge spotlight each group has stood in over the years in order to get them into the RARHOF in the first place!
Sure, I get that to pick out a few bands at a time every year keeps control and organises the whole 'hall of fame' thing a little better, but it's as if the RARHOF owners are trying to shape musical history to their own ends - "if it isn't in the hall it ain't real music". The whole thing is just so false.
I'm having a good Sunday moan here so I'll continue...
Even putting ELO in the Hall does not redeem it for me. It gets right up my nose that the RARHOF folk seem to think that just because they "chose" ELO it suddenly makes then officially a legendary band - they always were a legendary band. I can't imagine any of the Moodies having sleepless nights over whether they were either in or out of the HOF. All the proof they need as to their greatness are the fans on the tours and the hits they made.
The RARHOF site says "Each year, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation's nominating committee selects the group of artists nominated in the performer category". I guess what gets up my nose the most is that although this committee is probably formed of intelligent people, the law of music is that the bands the fans love is not the same as the bands a professional committee would love and I'd much rather see fans or facts (chart success, awards, tour sales etc) dictating a band's worth than a few random people. Actually though, fans and facts do dictate a band's worth - but only in the real world. In the HOF world it seems that everything has turned into some kind of political election and that's the thing that annoys me the most. It's so complicated and really takes the heart out of music. The whole thing is more like the presentation of a bill to Parliament than a celebration of music.
I've a few more points but I'll save them for later . I have gone on haven't I?

It has now been announced that Denny Laine will be included in the induction after all , and that his exclusion was an "oversight", (but nothing about, the late, Clint Warwick). No word on if he will perform with the rest of the band but unless they do Go Now, can't see what else he could join in with?

Like I said earlier in this thread, Roy was inducted with ELO but he had left within months before the band had hardly done anything to warrant his inclusion in the RRHOF.So taking that to its logical conclusion,Clint should be included too as he did more with the Moodies than Roy ever did with ELO....
