On another thread I mentioned that I don't like Driving Home For Christmas, other ones that are pretty poor include Wonderful Christmas Time by Macca, any version of Rocking Around The Christmas Tree, Merry Christmas Everyone by Shaky. Even Fairytale of New York is beginning to grate on me just cos it's so overplayed....

Many years ago, Hubby used to think that Paul McCartney was singing "Sydney Allen's wonderful Christmas time," which, of course, begged the question "Who is this Sydney Allen person?" lol

I used to like 'Fairytale of New York' until everyone else started to like it and it got over-played. I can't stand 'Rocking Around The Christmas Tree' either. I remember the headmaster testing the song on a bunch of kids for our Christmas play at primary school - it failed.
My most hated song though is 'Winter Wonderland'. If I hear it it makes me want to throw things.

I used to like it too. But then Kirsty MacColl was killed at Christmas time, in 2000. After that, I could never bear to hear it again. To this day, I have to switch over it it comes on the telly/radio.

The correct answer is "Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer". Kinda makes me realize why other countries dislike us Americans.

Earlier the radio came up with another Christmas song I detest, the dreaded Bruce Springsteen's version of Santa Claus is Coming to Town. I especially hate the way he drags out the word Comiiiiiiiiiing in it. Ack.

A slight deviation from the thread (forgive me Timeblue); we all had favourite childhood Christmas albums which we remember fondly - and which have long been lost to posterity. You leave home, your siblings inherit, stuff gets lost etc - so recently I've been using the interweb (esp. Utube & YTD) to 're-aquire' some of these old favourites. For me the standout was a series of albums (I suspect sold in gas stations in the USA, but handled more conventionally in Oz) put out by Columbia called "The Great Songs of Christmas". Back to the thread; I hate virtually all modern xmas songs 'cause they get way too much play.

APB for white male perp 6'2" known to be using the alias "Sydney Allen" - approach with caution! May be armed - and legged!
Many years ago a BBC memo of a contentious nature was circulating that august institution. Some wit (who obviously disagreed with the memo) pencilled on the bottom "Round objects".
(i.e. "Balls!")
Another wit then pencilled under that "Who is Round, and to what does he object?"
