Well, "I'm Alive" isn't a hit by any means -except a hit in the balls, that's true. Come on! It's a fine, fine track. I'd love to hear it live (of course the key would be decreased a step or two). Well, that depends on what you understand by "fine", my fellow countryman. I have a particular dislike for most songs on "Xanadu", "Don't walk away" being the sole exception, and "I'm alive" being the one I dislike the most. But all of them have that poppy, gayish (as in happy), plastic feel to it that would not fall within the limits of "fine" for me. Well, to each their own after all, even among fans of the same band... Changing subject, how hopeful are you that the old man will one day tour around these latitudes?

Helmut83 I agree with you about not liking Xanadu very much, but I happen to like "All Over the World" as well as "Don't Walk Away." "The Fall" is OK. I could do without the rest. "I'm Alive" is my least favorite track on the album by far.

I love those gayish, sugared songs, that's why. I have a vision about Jeff and South America. He'll come by... TWENTY NINETY-FIVE, TWENTY NINETY-FIVE.

"Don't Walk Away" is one of my absolute favourites in the whole Jeff Lynne catalog. I guess I am a bit sentimental.
Maybe though not a show opener. Rather the last waltz?

'I'm Alive' certainly isn't my fave track off Xanadu, but I just want Jeff to play every ELO single that they have done (not many left now...)

I would put "Magic" and "Suddenly" in the same category as "The Fall"-- pretty good. The rest of the ONJ side is totally forgettable, not even making enough of an impression to offend, but "I'm Alive" grates on my nerves... Sorry, JL.

Xanadu must be the only LP that I have in vinyl form in which I can safely say that one side has been played to death over the years and the other side is completely untouched...

I have the CD, and I rarely play it at all. It's one of those albums where I have to skip more songs than not, so I usually just skip the whole thing. Every blue moon I'll play the whole thing. I will sometimes pop in the CD if I'm alone in the car on a long, boring drive, but I usually still skip around (or just listen to my favorites multiple times and sing a lot ), and then listen to another CD entirely. One very good thing I can say about my favorite Xanadu songs: "All Over the World" is just so infectiously upbeat and happy, and "Don't Walk Away" is so very sad, that I can cover both ends of the human emotional range with those two songs on the one album. It makes for very cathartic singing, and I find singing to be an amazing stress-reliever!

"Grates on my nerves" is an expression that defines well what that song produces on me so if you allow me I'll make it my own too.

I have a vision about Jeff and South America. He'll come by... TWENTY NINETY-FIVE, TWENTY NINETY-FIVE. We'll have to borrow Walt Disney's piece of ice for that to happen, as Jeff will then be... ONE HUNDRED FOURTYSEVEN, ONE HUNDRED FOURTYSEVEN.

Your least favourite track on the album or by ELO? No, on the album. There's a few others by ELO I dislike more. How is it that you like every ELO song? I can't believe that... Helmut83 I think Timeblue was asking about how I felt about the ELO songs on that album vs. the album as a whole. I think he was saying he likes all the ELO songs on Xanadu and that's why he plays that whole side but not the other side . I could be wrong, but that's how I took it.
