Maybe never so much in the spotlight as Angus but equally the soul of AC/DC, departed peacefully though which is all anyone can hope for
RIP Malcolm

Just read that his older brother,George died 3 weeks ago. George was a member of 60s Aussie group 'The Easybeats' who sang the fantastic 'Friday On My Mind'.....

AC/DC are one of those bands who comprised the soundtrack of my kidhood. I remember the first time I smoked pot, it was in a neighbor's camper during a rainstorm. AC/DC's "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap" album was playing as I choked my way through a badly rolled blunt. Ahh..memories.

I worked for 10 years in Fremantle, Western Australia - very close to the cemetery where Bon Scott is buried.....and only a block or two from the prison where he once was 'accommodated'.

Mal's death is front-page news around Oz; 5 minute bios on the tv news etc. If the family wanted (and I don't think they do) a state funeral would be offered. He had a position in Akka Dakka somewhat analogous to JL; the quiet one in the background who actually WAS the band.

Most ozzies know the band by that nick-name.
The name ac/dc was innocently lifted from a domestic appliance in the early 70's. Later on it became somewhat incongruously linked to persons who 'walked both sides of the street'; partly because of this we monosyllabic males renamed the group.
By the same logic Jimmy Barnes became 'Barnsy' and John Farnham became 'Farnsy'.......

When we were in Venice we met two mad Aussies in a bar who insisted AC/DC were a poor imitation of a band called Cold Chisel, have you ever heard of them babyzoomer? I think I looked them up at the time and wasn't too impressed, I expect we were having our legs pulled. The Aussies were brilliant though, one of them gave me his Skippy necklace

I think I looked them up at the time and wasn't too impressed, I expect we were having our legs pulled. The Aussies were brilliant though, one of them gave me his Skippy necklace "Chisel" - are absolutely brilliant! Way better than AC/DC. Cold Chisel used the talents of people like Ian Moss, Jimmy Barnes (Barnsy), Joe Camilleri, Wilbur Wilde and Steve Prestwich.
Oh shit it never occurred to me that there could be people in the world who have not heard Chisel's "Khe Sanh".
Do yourself a favour; check out "When the War is Over", "Breakfast at Sweethearts", "You Got Nothing I Want" at least.
Worthy of note is Jimmy Barnes' solo album 'Working Class Man' - great music.

Hmmm... on mature reflection, my previous post is somewhat disrespectful (given the subject of this thread).....
There has been a longstanding feud/rivalry in Oz between AC/DC fans and Chisel fan as to which band is 'best'.
To characterise this further, Akka fans tend to wear check flannelette shirts, t-shirts and jeans with thongs, and tend to drink canned beer until they vomit and pass out; Chisel fans wear the same (except they sometimes have work boots) and they tend to drink premixed cans of coke and rum until they vomit and pass out.
All very TIC.
