I have long been a fan of Jeff Lynne/ELO and am delighted to see a new wave of enthusiasm for their music/live touring. Unfortunately, as an avid collector and completionist, I find myself disappointed with remaster/reissue efforts or, in many cases, unreleased material by the band. Worse still, as a novice graphic designer, the album artwork is never up to scratch (in my opinion) for my iTunes library and iPod. Rather than lament over my limited collection of studio and live albums, I decided to take my collecting to ultra-fan level. Introducting my homemade ELO back catalogue!
Beginning with my all-time favourite concert (Live at Hyde Park), I refashioned the blu-ray cover to create an accompanying album cover which looks much better on iTunes/Google Play Music. I also added the announcement interview with Chris Evans, rare introduction video, and intro by Chris Evans for a more complete package:
From there, I started to look at material which (rather criminally) has not received a proper release and remains in the bootleg sphere to date:
Then, I thought about all of those old bootlegs gathering dust and without any consistency between them. Until now:
And more recent boots:
Finally to the unreleased studio material and what I consider to be the most criminally underrepresented in the ELO catalogue:
I hope this has given you a taste of the madness of one ELO fan which stems from an unhappiness with the current release catalogue — including an endless stream of greatest hits packages. My only wish is to see a steady stream of archive material released to long-waiting fans (including myself!)
My question is: is my collection complete? What other homemade releases have I missed out on? Currently working on a compilation of Jeff's work with the Beatles based on the Hard Day's Night cover and an alternative Armchair Theatre cover to include additional tracks missing from the 2013 reissue. I'll be sure to share these once completed.
Any fans care to share their own efforts? I'm all eyes (and ears)!
