I like the part 'Role in the band: The least famous one, but arguably the most important in terms of how the band sounds.'

I like the idea of his new Wilburys, but replace Josh Homme with someone like Jason Lytle of Grandaddy. He's more in the mold of Jeff than Homme is. Or maybe even Mark Ronson, who praises Full Moon Fever as a quintessential 80's album, mostly due to Jeff's production.

I like the idea of Dave Grohl forming a Wilbury like band. But the Tom Petty role should go to Aaron Lee Tasjan - check out his song "Dime" and see if you don't imagine the Wilbury tour bus heading to a gig. If Jeff wasn't available, we'd have to get Thomas Walsh (Pugwash) to stand in. Maybe Mark Knopfler could take George's spot on lead guitar. But who would take the Dylan role? Need a lyricist with some chops. Leonard Cohen if he was still with us, but that's not to be. Maybe Paul Simon. JL could produce.
