Was just thinking about unusual follow-up albums. Guess two that come to my mind are
- Queen "Hot Space" after "The Game", and - Kansas "Monolith" seemed kind of a low key follow-up to "Point of Know Return"
Any come to your minds?

for me, after the magnificant OK Computer, Radiohead should have made Kid A and Amnesiac a single album.

Seems like some artists do a double album to get a bunch of songs out of their system they've had laying around, so they can let them go and focus on some new stuff. Some single albums that way too. Stuff that's just been laying around a while, and they they finally make use of it. Like Van Halen with "Different Kind of Truth". Jim

One other very weird follow-up album was Prince's "Around the World in a Day", after the "Purple Rain" album.
Still not sure if I really like that one very much, I guess "Pop Life" was an OK enough song at the time.
Going from songs like "Baby I'm at Star" to songs like "Tambourine", just seemed like kind of a notch down.

Jim Yes many examples of the quality control button not being pressed the best example might be the Beatles white album would have been a brilliant single album had it been cut down to sgt pepper length (it may have allowed for a few better tracks to be ported over to yellow submarine as well. i'm not starting on the out of the blue as a single album again as we seem to visit that every 6-months or so on this forum
