Terrible news. He had one of the best voices ever. Really sad for his children.

He did some great work with Temple of the Dog, as well as, of course, Soundgarden. Depression knows no boundaries, though. Sorry he felt so alone that he had to take his own life.

Weird thing is, he killed himself within 15 miles of where I live, which is 15 miles north of the fox theater which is in the city of Detroit.

Apparently he didn't and that makes it even more tragic. Looks like the suicidal thoughts were a side effect of a prescription drug he took, because he was a former drug addict.

I've heard that a few times, that drugs have made a person that seems to have everything going for them, kill themselves. One guy I used to work with was top of his class, on his way to being a doctor, and for no apparent reason he hung himself. His friends veere saying the drugs probably made him do it, guess they can throw your mind in a black hole that perhaps overmagnifies the normal depressions and fears we experience.

As someone who has suffered from depression for most of their life, I've gone out of my way to avoid medication of any kind for fear that they'd mess with my head even worse.
For instance, there is evidence that taking the antidepressant Prozac is what lead Del Shannon to kill himself.
