I think it's high time that ELO should be recognised for their huge achievement in the area of hair retention. Considering their age it's pretty impressive that Jeff ,Bev and Roy still have such impressive locks (even if the hair dye bill must be astronomical) and frankly it would be hard to imagine a bald Jeff, ( or Roy and Bev for that matter), it just wouldn't be right somehow. I reckon it must be something about Birmingham/Midlands bands (particularly the front men) as,Ozzy (Sabbath),Justin Hayward (The Moody's) and Noddy (Slade) have all avoided becoming folliclly challenged along with their bandmates (I make an exception in the case of Dave Hill of Slade, whose tragic hair and fringe disaster is legendary). And of course, the king of them all, Robert Plant whose extraordinary permed bouffant still amazes in a bloke pushing 70!

This is a most interesting theory, however there's always an exception to the rule and Brummie Rob Halford out of Judas Priest is it Although he couldn't suppress it completely, hence the tufty beard

I did NOT know that leather and chains were the leading cause of baldness. Wow! Ya truly do learn something new every day. This message board is most educational.

Mr Bevan's Birmingham/Midlands impressive locks are suspicious. Mr Plants too. What a Lion! (Extensions? Nothing wrong with them.) Sir Paul? No question he has to fuss every day putting his "locks" on. There are not many men I know in their early, to late 60's, into their 70's, that are still blessed with their natural, full, kick ass hair. My brother had that lovely, full, wavy long hair. Hit his 60's, gone You just have to think.
Now, Roy? Classy his hair was for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I do believe still natural. He looked great!
Jeff? He wears his hair flat, fighting his natural curl and wave. His is hair sprayed, tramped down, dried out looking. It looks like a wig. Maybe some of it is? Oooooh.... can't stand that thought.

Maybe I'm being naive about this, but I think Jeff's hair is real, and all his. It just looks a bit thin and "overworked," probably from trying to coax the long, thinning, frizzy hair that's left into a style to cover the whole head and still be worn long. I'm sure he uses hair color.
(Whatever you think if it - or him- Donald Trump's very carefully and creatively coiffed hair is real, by the way, and he's 70.)
Bev must have me fooled, too, if his hair is not all his. I've seen the photos of him from recent years with the hair flying as he's drumming, and I've seen other recent photos with grey roots showing. My gut tells me that his hair is real, but of course, colored. Maybe he has extensions. I don't know.
I'm probably wrong. I'm actually not very good at spotting these types of things. Really bad extensions are obvious, but these guys can afford the good stuff! I have lots of students who have very good "weaves" or extensions, and I had no idea until they (or someone else) said something to me about it. I guess because I can't imagine dealing with long hair again (mine was naturally thick and unruly during my teen years- sort of like some of the earlier 1970s Jeff looks), that I don't think that anyone else wants the bother, either, especially if having long hair means spending money to get it!
Like I said in an earlier post elsewhere, it is quite possible that they all use those drugstore products for men with thinning hair. My father used his favorite hair product of this sort very faithfully, beginning in his sixties until he went into hospice care at the age of 93. He kept quite a bit of his beautiful white hair up until the very end!

Finally, a hair and wig discussion on this board. I am a member of the Kissfaq forum and every other thread is a thread about good and bad wigs for Gene and Paul.
And I think we are rather naive if we don't expect some of these boys to have "help" in the hair department. Either through wigs or weaves or hair pieces of some sort.

Me neither and I'm sorry that you brought up this idea. My poor, beloved Jeff!

I'll say it once again -- I think Jeff's hair is as real as ever. My dad is literally older than almost everyone, way older than Jeff, and he has a lush, full head of hair. He actually had similar hair to Jeff's when he was young... brown, very thick, curly to the point of an Afro. (I didn't get any of his beautiful curl) Dad's hair is white now (Jeff has admitted his is dyed) and has lost some curl but is still very thick. Aside from male pattern baldness I think how much hair you start out with has a big effect on how much you end up with and Jeff had some thick-ass hair. I also just don't think Jeff is vain enough to bother with hair peices and extensions. I mean, the man lives in Los Angeles and has resisted getting any work done to his face.

I agree with what you've said here, but I do have to say that I know of guys who are not vain in any way except when it comes to their hair/baldness (but I don't personally know any guy who wears extensions or a hair piece). I think it must be the way lots of women are about weight. It's just a very sensitive thing for some folks. Hubby and I agreed when we got married not to ever complain about hairlines or waistlines! Good thing, because Mr. eloneen now has the baldness pattern that runs in his family and neither one of us is rail thin anymore. Fortunately, I think he looks great with his shaved head, and he loves my new "curves."

I agree, I think Roy's hair is totally natural, just maybe dyed, straightened and tied back I also think Jeff is suppressing his natural curls, it was madly curly way before perms were in vogue for men and now it's probably being sculpted to try not to look permed. I've definitely seen/heard an interview where he talks about using hair dye - in my opinion hair dye is one of modern civilisation's greatest inventions and there is no shame at all in using it. Speaking of Kiss, Gene Simmons has a much worse version of the smoothed out look and should phone Jeff for his hairdresser's details....

If Jeff ever decided to cut his hair short, he'd look a lot like Dave Stewart from the Eurythmics.

The night I fell in love with Jeff, that time he appeared on the One Show to plug the MBS doc in 2012, all my family talked about was his hair.
My exact words that night, and I'm ashamed to have been so disrespectful to my hero (well, I didn't know he was going to be my hero and I'd only been contemplating him anew for a few minutes), were: "It could be anyone under there".

Jeff and Roy have definitely had some type of colouring treatment but I'm certain all their hair is their own still.
