Anyone else a really big fan of Travis? They were one of the bands I grew up listening to thanks to my Dad. When I was little I argued the toss with my parents that the lead singer of Travis was called Travis. He's not called Travis I'm afraid though, his name is Fran Healy.
For those who are not familiar with the band, they started off back in 1997. The first song I remember is Tied to the 90s, a favourite of mine due to me being a 90s child! Other favourites of mine include Writing to Reach You (which pays homage to Oasis's Wonderwall in the opening chords and lyrics), Sing, Flowers in the Window (which Macca helped finish, though Fran never credited Paul for it, not impressed!), Coming Around (the music video featuring Fran as a Humpty Dumpty character!), Driftwood, Why Does it Always Rain on me? Side, Turn, Walking Around in the Sun, Re-Offender (one of their darker songs) and The Beautiful Occupation (written about The Iraq War).
I don't expect you to listen to all of these songs by the way, just the ones you perhaps haven't heard before or haven't heard in a while
My parents had the pleasure of seeing these live back in 2004 when they were promoting 12 Memories. One of the support acts featured a very young Keane just starting out, another one of my favourite bands! Fran is still on friendly terms with Tim Rice-Oxley (the songwriter of Keane), to the point where Tim wrote a song that sounded like an attempt to sound like Travis which Tim gave to Fran to work on! These came to be Magnificent Time
They released a new album last year called Everything at Once whicn well includes some interesting music videos but Travis have been known for their crazy videos and poor Fran getting the brunt of everything!
This one absolutely kills me but Dougie the bass player looks adorable and is having the time of his life. What is it with me and bass players? Dougie by the way is the guy Fran first encounters whilst uh, dressed as a car? Neil, the drummer is the Sun. I dunno about Magnificent Time but it's certainly a magnificent drug trip!
Animals, written by the lovely Dougie, I've come to the conclusion that he's either immortal or aged really well!
So yeah be interesting to hear your guys opinion on their songs and music videos as I have a thing for music videos!
