Helmut83 where would you like my next set of pictures to come from? East Europe, West Europe, North Europe, UK, Africa or America.

Glad you enjoyed the pics - I forgot that in America chips are probably potato crisps, over here they're what you probably call french fries BSJ - but not skinny things, they are usually more hefty and the Dutch and Belgians do them especially well. This is the kind of thing we had, but they threaded yet more chips onto the sticks and stuck them in the top. Food of the gods

Ah, if I'd seen the phrase "fish and chips", I would have know what they were. The words, "cone" in the shop and "sticks", really confused me. We have them this large and they have to be crispy, soft on the inside, to be any good, as these seem to be. What topping did you choose?

Wow! Love those photos, Horacewimp! It's amazing how the colours have lasted in painted parts. And it's so big I suppose even when it's crowded it doesn't spoil it - really it was all designed to have lots of people milling around it. Would you go back again? A Nile cruise has always sounded like a good idea...

I had samurai sauce on mine (spicy) and Mr M had tunisian on his (just strange, but he liked it)

And it's so big I suppose even when it's crowded it doesn't spoil it - really it was all designed to have lots of people milling around it. Would you go back again? A Nile cruise has always sounded like a good idea... The colours where they are preserved are unbelievable considering they are something like 3500 years old, the Dulux paint in our lounge only lasts a few years before it needs doing again. When we went in 2011 it wasn't too busy, the Arab spring uprising had recently happened and tourism had been hit hard, it was noticeable the locals had developed an attitude. Both times we visited we didn't do the cruise we just stayed in Luxor. The reason for this is there is so much to see there, temples, museums and the Valley of the Kings. I have got some pictures of the tombs the colour and painting in these is even better, they are proper photos I need to scan them. I would highly recommend a visit but would be a little careful due to the current situation over there which is a shame the locals are hard working and very friendly. Not to scare anyone but when we were they we sat outside at a cafe by the temple, a massive guy in a posh suit wearing mirror sun glasses ambled up and sat at a table next to us, he ordered his drink and then pulled out from under his jacket an AK47 and placed it casually on the table while drinking. We quickly paid and left pushing the kids away, I think and hope he was the tourist or secret police, we didn't wait to ask.

Woah - I don't blame you for that! Someone I know went a year or two after a terrorist attack and said he felt really safe because there were lots of armed soldiers at all the tourist sites. When you say the locals had developed an attitude, was it a good one or a bad one? Surely they'd be extra nice to the visitors who do brave the threats?

It was more of a bad attitude, a lot of the tourist police had vanished and so they realised they weren't watched. Because of this they would hassle you more to buy things or go to there restaurants etc. They also hassled the girls more but this was probably because of their blond hair! Don't get me wrong it wasn't too bad but you felt a little more vulnerable than the previous visit.

Great photo about halfway down, looks like a rear view of you lecturing the girls on historical facts as you approach a temple
