Well in the u2 thread, Timeblue mentioned of how one of his friends got hit in the head with a beer bottle at one of their concerts and had to go to first aid. Got me wondering what are the roughest concerts people have attended? For mine, not too bad, just one Alice Cooper concert on Halloween in 86 or 87 I remember noticing someone had torn up a seat with a knife when we were leaving. Also, I was at David Lee Roth's very first solo concert, somehow the Little Caesar's sign over one of the exits from the seats was knocked off and hanging there loosely. So just those couple incidents for those shows, overall the audiences were fine and civil, etc. Curious to hear anyone else's experiences of rough concerts. Jim

Some of the punk concerts I went too were a bit rough, Ramones, Splodgenesabounds, The Dickies and Chelsea in particular.
Saw Gary Glitter at the Night Out in Birmingham, it wasn't rough as such but everyone started dancing and stomping on the tables which collapsed. The bouncers said it was the worst damage they had seen.
Once went to see Rolf Harris at Malvern Winter Gardens (I do seem to pick convicted paedophiles) we got rather drunk and did much heckling, we made the write up in the local paper which said the concert was ruined by a noisy, drunken section of the crowd. Fame at last!!
We used to outrun the bouncers at the Odeon at Birmingham so we could stand next to the stage even if we had a ticket for the circle or near the back.
Not concert related but once went to a football match Aston Villa v Leeds. We got caught up with a massive section of Leeds fans, we were very scared and couldn't talk as our Birmingham accents would have given us away.
These all pale into nothing compared to my sister in law who got caught up with the shooting at Fort Lauderdale Airport this weekend, she is now back home safe but very shaken.

They were in terminal two where the incident occurred just checking in when the shooting happened in the baggage reclaim, they counted around twenty shots and hit the floor. An off duty armed policeman was behind them in the line and so gave them some reassurance. They remained in the terminal for hours protected by SWAT teams until they were bused out with a police escort to a hotel. They finally flew back to Canada earlier today, they had been on a cruise.

How's Mrs Wimp doing? Jaw dropping. I'm sure they were thinking terrorist's attacking and waiting for a bomb to go off.

When you give a running commentary on Facebook surely it's not as bad as you make out or your phone is stuck to your hand.

Ah. Facebook. The most narcissist thing going. Too bad. Folks are probably sick of it by now.

Blimey, Horacewimp, you must have been on pins whilst it was all being documented on Facebook - really glad she's safe now and that she had some expert help and reassurance. As for the rough gig question, I must say that having been to umpteen gigs by some very dodgy bands with even dodgier audiences the only place I've ever seen a fight break out was at a Take That gig in the Millennium Stadium. It kicked off between some drunken women right in front of Gary Barlow, his face was a picture.

I haven't been to any rough gigs but I once went to a Band of the Year contest and my ears took a belting. They were violently assaulted by untuneful wannabe Oasises and Black Sabbaths screeching at overly loud volume. I had to leave early because it was bringing tears to my eyes.

I've been a part of the security detail for shows and concerts ranging from Avril Lavigne to T-Pain to George Jones to Disturbed, so I've kinda dealt with fans from all walks of life. But honestly, the most insane and violent crowd I ever dealt with was at a Toby Keith concert a few years ago. One of the many drunks in the crowd kept throwing empty cups towards the stage, and when I finally stepped in and told him to stop or leave, he tried to hit me with his phone. Needless to say, he ended up on his ass and out the door, that night.
