When the dust clears for me with U2, the only one song that really stands out to me, is "Where the Streets Have No Name". It has a beautiful abstract lyric, and the chicken-scratch guitar really makes it a magical experience.
Other than that, I have to be honest, that I can absolutely care less about U2. I have given them an honest try of "Unforgettable Fire" and "Joshua Tree" and "War", and I see the merits in those albums and many of the songs, but when the dust clears, they just don't do it for me personally, aside from "Where the Streets Have No Name".
If I was forced to keep one U2 album, guess it would be "The Joshua Tree", which to me is the most solid of the bunch. "In God's Country" and "Bullet the Blue Sky", along with "Streets" would be the prime cuts for me, personally. I did see them live on the Joshua Tree tour, and they were good, I did enjoy the concert to be sure.

"Rattle and Hum" is the only U2 album I really like from beginning to end. Other than that, they have a nice handful of really good songs- "New Years Day", "Pride(In The Name of Love)", "Sunday Bloody Sunday", With Or Without You", "Bullet the Blue Sky", "One", "Stuck In A Moment You Can't Get Out Of"..etc..

For me it's anything from "War" to "How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb", where the band really hit their commercial and creative stride all at once thanks in part to Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois' production. "Zooropa" and "Pop" are underrated alt-rock/techno-rock gems.

I quite like U2, I think I have The Joshua Tree LP somewhere but I'm not a proper fan. The way they throw everything at their live shows and generally seem to be intensely into their music is most appealing. I really like One, and Vertigo too which is not only a great song but was on the pre-show music on a Muse tour once, just before the band took to the stage. I saw them often enough on that tour that just hearing Vertigo brings all the excitement back, good times Similarly Muse did a brilliant cover of Where The Streets Have No Name with The Edge at Glastonbury so I have a soft spot for that too. Bono does spoil the whole effect sometimes with his ridiculous offstage antics, but then again that kind of thing just goes with the territory in his line of work.

I'm not a huge U2 fan but I prefer their earliest stuff as it was produced by Martin Hannett.

Saw them at Elland Road Leeds in 87 for the Joshua Tree tour and it ranks as the worst gig I have ever been to, I only saw them for about 5 minutes as the crowd were going mental jumping up and down, bottles of god knows what were being flung everywhere and my mate copped one on his head meaning he had to go to the first aid post to be bandaged up. Not a good day....(although The Pretenders and The Mission were good)

My absolute fav U2 effort had to be Zooropa. It's a verra atypical album for them, or anyone for that matter. Bit of a side project while they were doing Achtung Baby. Didn't even tour USA with it. Amazing backbeats. Lush, rich, dreamy.
