there is a challenge on Twitter to get Jeff Lynne into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. It's inspired by the Ice Bucket Challenge. You have to drink a beverage with a lot of electrolytes and make a video (electrolyte sounds like Electric Light). twitter.com/hashtag/elochallenge

Would abstinence from drinking tons of Gatorade and not making a video count as cheating?
The R&RHOF has already received too much attention and doesn't deserve any more, IMO. Lynne and ELO are legends without this sort of critical recognition.

I thoroughly agree with Rob about the Hall of Fame, what's it all about anyway? It seems to have caused a lot of bad feeling from people who thought they should have been in it, or between the current line-up of bands and the ex members who were sacked for bad behaviour/left due to "musical differences"
If Jeff were to get in on his own it would be bound to infuriate the likes of Bev and Roy etc. I know he's done lots of production and solo stuff but his big break was with The Move and ELO.
Wonder if it's already been suggested to him and he's turned it down for this kind of reason? He's pretty shy and as Rob says the status of Legend has been his for years already.
Not to knock those who want to do the video thing though, good luck to them, but I won't be joining in.

My concerns as well. Can't remember the band but it was a S**t Storm when it came to who was in and who was out. I would not be surprised that Jeff is giving this a pass.
It really is an amazing place. I still have the plea for money mailers when they started - threw them a few pennies. How I roll!
It's worth the trip.
One of Jagger's jumpsuits would fit someone who was maybe 120lb. He's so tiny.

Not to pour cold water (no pun intended as to the Ice Bucket Challenge!) over what sounds like a well-intentioned idea. But don't these silly challenges risk undermining the "gravity" of the RARHOF?
Not that I have much respect for it. It must be because I'm not American. But to measure success, talent and influence against entrance into a museum itself undermines the beauty of music.

Ha! Many Americans including myself don't care about the R&RHOF... and I actually find the level of attention it gets to be pointless and embarrassing.
... and you're right about the challenge, of course. Nothing like it is going to change the minds of anyone comprising the self-appointed committee. Can you imagine how stuffy the atmosphere must be when they meet?

Can you imagine how stuffy the atmosphere must be when they meet?i can agree with the sentiment....the who cares....does it mean anything...but then, on the other hand...yeah...it sure as hell does matter when Jeff Lynne still isnt in there under ELO and The Wilburys....how the hell can they ignore such a vast back catalogue...and he has worked with enough high profile people in America to easily get a seat at the top table.... ...i reckon if you looked at who is in there some of them cannot and will not compare...though i am somewhat biased....i wont be doing any stoopid ice bucket/electrolyte drinking challange when the idiots running this 'hall of fame' cant tell their a*se from their elbow and couldnt organise the proverbial p*ss up in a brewery....they are beneath contempt.......
