I can't believe it's 36 years. John will soon have been gone longer than he was alive.

When I think of the differences between people around today and John Lennon, I always remember that John never ever once used the internet. Not that I blame society's problems entirely on computers but they certainly don't help us to grow another Lennon. We'll never have another like him and while we keep taking the easy ways, as John never did, he'll remain a true one-off. Today you'll be lucky to find another kid with the same values and passions as John, the world today just can't grow another.

One of my mum's favourite-ever songs is 'Watching the Wheels' and she isn't even a big Lennon fan, the only record of his she ever bought was 'Imagine'.

On the morning of the news of his shooting broke, my dad (who hated 'modern music') left a note before he went to work saying that John had been murdered. I have always remembered this and think that if something like this made him leave a note for mum and me to wake up to, then it must have been a monumental piece of news to take in....

I disagree 100%, I think John Lennon was a musical genius, but in many ways a total jerk as a person. He has his share of good quotes, but too many of his interviews laced with f-words and complete nonsense. I'm devastated as anyone that he was shot and killed, but man the guy was sure going around shooting off his mouth a lot towards the end, that reminds me of how pride comes before a fall.

From my perspective it would have been fun to see Trump rip John Lennon apart the way he did Hillary in the debates, if Lennon tried to mess with him.
