Haha! Foul mouthed Jeffy! I love it! First thought: "aww... Poor Phil Collins" Second thought: "oh wait! I hate Phil Colllins too!"

I now officially adore Jeff even more, what a ledge with his rubbish hearing and admirable views on baldy annoying drummers

I like Phil Collins as a musician but apparently he hates Paul McCartney because Paul referred to him as little Phil Collins but he called him little in a sentence where Paul was complimenting him, I mean how petty is that? Had no idea Tim Healy was friends with Jeff, wonder how they met? I love hearing little stories about Jeff from other people, nice that Matt sees that Jeff is an absolute genius, I like the songs by 1975 that I've heard, now he's said that about our Jeff I'll have to listen to their music more!

I love Phil Collins, I love Paul McCartney and of course, I love Jeff Lynne. I've been privileged enough to have seen them in concert nearly 30 times (between them) over the past 30 years and more.
I hate it when artists that I admire so much say something vaguely disparaging about one another. Fortunately, it doesn't happen too often.

never knew this!!!
What Happened? Creative differences within the band and personal issues in Gabriel’s life (notably family troubles) came to the fore during the creation of the band’s 1974 prog-rock magnum opus, The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway, prompting Gabriel to quit.
Replacement: Phil Collins, who was already in the band as the drummer. His ascension came after the band auditioned a number of famous singers, including Jeff Lynne (ELO), Phil Lynott (Thin Lizzy), and teen heartthrob David Cassidy (yes, really).
Did It Work Out? Did it ever. The band’s 1976 album, A Trick of the Tail, outsold all the other Genesis albums combined and got the band started on its move away from its progressive-rock roots and toward radio-friendly arena rock, where they’d find great success in the 1980s.

Blimey, I can't believe Jeff and Phil Lynott actually auditioned for Genesis. Both were successful enough with their own bands at the time. David Cassidy, on the other hand, would have been only too pleased to be asked as his career was pretty much over by then, but somehow I doubt he'd have been top of their list of possibilities. Interesting

I'm not buying that one. Genesis was beneath Jeff.

I bought Flaming Pie when it came out. The whole album is great and Beautiful Night is one of the best songs. I wish McCartney would use Jeff again.

'ledge' or 'leg' with the g having a j sound is short or slang for legend!

after reading the Matt Healy article, I had to listen to some 1975 - sounding very 80ish sounds like he grew up surrounded by good sounds

and then I had to give McCartney's Beautiful Night another listen, which led me to this "making of" video looks like he was really enjoying himself, and it's fun to see who else you can spot in the making of parts
