Every year for Children in Need Chris Evans arranges a Dine and Disco. Today on his show he said the artist for next year is signed but it can't be announced, he went on to say it was one of his three childhood favourite artists but not the Beatles as Paul McCartney played last year. All these comments were made after he has played All Over the World by ELO, my guess is Jeff is signed up for this, it would also be a good warm up for Wembley the following week. Radio Two

Hopefully this is so.
Evans isn't known for his subtlety so announcing this after an ELO song when we know his thoughts on Jeff...

Told you so BBC Radio 2's Chris Evans has announced that Jeff Lynne will be playing an exclusive gig next year as part of the all-new Dine & Disco! He'll be performing in front of an intimate audience on Saturday 17 June 2017 in the grounds of Chewton Glen, all in aid of BBC Children in Need. If you're a *UK resident* you will have a chance to be a part of this very special event for the price of just £5 by simply answering a question by text. bbc.in/2fRNQWf

so the blind auction started and finished this morning on the chris evans show, he ramped it up all morning ... announcing texas as support (their singer was in the studio co -presenting that section), lots of posh food /posh hotel type stuff ... then an taped telephone interview with jl who dropped the obligatory working on new songs at the moment and may feature. For those listening on podcast his interview comes after 08:30. Although almost the entire hour and half are filled with ELO and Texas songs ... Upshot of it is it has raised the most money ever, first 1/2 hour average was 30k a bid, next 1/2 hour 32k, the final 20 mins they didn't announce but ...they did announce the total £1.25M ... if you missed out ... he hinted there may be more a FEW more tickets being sold on his show tomorrow.

The final bidding for dine and disco completed at 9:20 today
they managed to find 6 more rooms at the hotel, the additional blind auction brought in another £188k .... so alongside the £1.25M yesterday and the yet to be completed text to win (the finishes at 11 am today)... He mentioned that the demand for the text to win was also unprecedented and they had decided to up it to 5 extra pairs of tickets. The only total he gave was at about 7:45 and that had already reached over £100k in texts ... looks like JL's ELO with Texas in support in a tent (a week before wembley) is going to raise getting on for £1.5M for Children in Need.
interestingly Take That also auctioned themselves to play at someone's place ... that also broke just over a million
Mike Stevens and co will be shattered!
