I sure wonder what it was like for the string players during the Out of the Blue and Discovery music videos, as they are barely present on the actual songs of which they mime. All online discussions mention that Mik only played on 3 tracks, Mel only 1 and Hugh none for the former; all three were absent in full on Discovery. I can't imagine being part of the music videos even though I wasn't one the actual song. Must've been an interesting time, which begs the question if the string players suspected they'd be out of the band soon. I think I had saw somewhere that Rob Caiger once said that during Face the Music, the string players would record their parts, including their solo bits, which would be mixed with backing orchestra, or something to that effect. I assume the same applied to A New World Record as detailed documentation is limited. But yeah, the music videos from this period are funny with how the string players are seen playing even if no strings are present at that instance in the song.

It was a paycheck. Much like the rest of us they worked at the bosses discretion.

It's a foolish comment, but the video of Rockaria! from the concert in Wembley in 1978 is simply "un-watchable". It's a great performance, but the cameras going all the time from one place of the screen to another make me enjoy the song but not the video. The same happens with Mr Blue Sky and other songs. We can't see them playing!!

It just goes to show that a great song is quality either with it's full instrumentation or with only a piano.
Jeff's voice is a precious object when heard in real life and not on record.

That looks more like the ocean's son than the ocean's daughter.
