I quite like that alternative version of 'Ordinary Dream'. It's different. But I really do love that acoustic version elophile found. Very hypnotic and beautiful. My favourite version.

I remember years ago, before I knew of this forum, I subscribed to the Showdown mailing list as it was the only way of discussing with other ELO fans and hearing what they had to say. Somebody once brought this orchestral mix up, and Lyn Hoskins confirmed it was fan-made and added how disgusted she was by it. Thought it defiled Jeff's intent of what the song should sound like.
I always thought that was an overly dramatic view of the mix..I like both versions! It's such a perfect song - one of my favorite ELO songs - and both versions are enjoyable in different ways. Truly an underrated gem of the whole ELO catalog.

It's that time of the year when the bhabs comes out of hibernation. Disgusted? Totally overly dramatic. Why wouldn't a random fan make such a mix? I think Jeff himself would have found it interesting.

I agree about the mix sounding really good and really ELO/Jeff Lynne. If it was a fan who did it, he sure was a good pupil of the Bearded One. And, other than a few arrangements at the beginning, I like it. At some parts the strings really add to it. I would never risk an hypothesis about who did it though. By the way, what a hell of a song "Ordinary Dream" is. I don't think I could ever get tired of listening to it, no matter if original or alternate version. And the final guitar solo might be Jeff's best ever.Believe it or not, I've just caught up with this thread! Apart from the one written about the founder of this forum, THIS is my favourite Jeff Lynne song.
And I fully agree with you Helmut83 - it IS one heck of a way to finish this brilliant song!

Here's a version of Ordinary Dream I found probably like 10 years ago on MYSPACE of all places. myspace.com/jefflynneelo/music/songsIt sounds like an acoustic demo but I never knew if it was actually Jeff or not. The other audio clips on the page are for real... When I saw this topic I figured I'd scrounge around and try to find it again. Sounds like Jeff to me... Very pretty. Anyone know what this is? I'm sorry, but I just can't get this page to load. Does anybody have a mirror?

Finally sat down to listen to that alternate version. Well, it's "big". The extra bits make it sound more like the typical seventies ELO - and that'd make a lot of people happy. I could listen to it quite often. However... For me, the original will always be the definitive version. Starting off slowly and quietly, before building to that magnificent cacophony at the end. By the way, I hate Jeff Lynne! Not only is he quite a decent poet, but the so 'n so's more than a decent musician and arranger too. Too many talents for one man! (Love that Brummie, actually!)
